Just wondering what sort of certification one would need to become a licensed/legit personal trainer/coach for fitness and sports athletes.
I am finishing up my M.Sc. in biochem, so thats not quite human kinetics/physiology... but i was interested in changing paths.
What sort of pay as well can one expect?

Find a gyn that you want to work at then find out what they require (if they like you that might pay for the cert as well). There are so many decent certs. it's better that you go in this direction insted of picking a cert and finding out what gym likes it. Pay varies with location and gyms... here in Cali it is quite easy to clear $50k and very possible to clear $100k.
