Philosophically freedom is great......

but in all practicality, there are just too many uneducated (by choice), irrational, mentally disturbed, violent, unethical, selfish, lazy maniacs in this country for the level of freedoms we have in America to actually work.

Too many freedoms and laws/rules stretched and clouded have allowed those with power and money to rob us blindly via government and business corruption. On the other end ,we have far too many with their hands out figuring any way they can to manipulate the system so they can suck out as many benefits as possible.

In order for this to stop, drastic measures will be needed, measures that many Americans won't stand for. The super rich and powerful won't stand for their schemes getting shut down without a fight and those at the bottom will resort to violence and thievery at the slightest hint of their life of leaching and unlimited reproducing being threatened.

your premise is completely false.

"Too many freedoms and laws/rules"

Wat? You don't see the problem here?

"have allowed those with power and money to rob us blindly via government and business corruption"

too much government/laws/regulations means not enough freedom, not too much freedom

"we have far too many with their hands out figuring any way they can to manipulate the system so they can suck out as many benefits as possible."

because the taxation to support these leeches is mostly outright theft. it's socialist nonsense, the antithesis of private property rights, a pillar of true freedom. and it wouldn't be necessary without all the regulations pushed by big businesses to kill any competition. but the brainwashed tax-worshipers think the regulations actually help them because the state is god and anything their "side" does is good and just.

it will have to end in war. but in your scenario nobody is fighting for freedom. the power brokers are fighting for illegitimate control and the poor are fighting for handouts they didn't earn. this is the problem. nobody knows what freedom is anymore and nobody cares, including you apparently.

no we do not have too much freedom. we do not have much freedom at all. we are born into a system of modern slavery. if you can't go hunt to feed yourself, if you can't own land to farm and live (there are property taxes. spare me.), if you can't withdraw yourself from the economy and be self-sufficient and refuse to participate in the fraud, in the country where you were born, you are a slave.

I think Stefan pretty much nailed it.

Stefan also had a guest on recently, an academic from... Norway I think, who was promoting the idea that Democracy is contingent upon the average IQ of the population being above some number, 100 maybe. It sounds like he pulled it out of his ass but maybe it's not a useless model. So in his opinion democracy would never work in places like Iraq because the people there are not smart enough to maintain it. He argued that democracy in Europe is doomed because they are importing hordes of immigrants from countries where the average IQ is 80 who also breed prodigiously, and so eventually the average would drop and democracy would be untenable. So there may be something to this idea, and with America getting stupider by the day, I wouldn't doubt that we will also continue to lose our freedoms. You can see it with the rise of the police state. My main point is that we are already not very free at all. I learned that when I was 17 and jailed for possession of marijuana. Where these thugs get this idea that they have the legitimate authority to do such a thing I'll never know (from the state obviously but how can you morally believe such nonsense?), but the fact that those laws have some support proves how far we've fallen as a society. You can argue we were never that free anyway with slavery or whatever, but the people who weren't slaves really weren't slaves. I don't think you can say that today.

You are one hundred percent right. Not all men deserve to be free. Phone Post 3.0

Total freedom is anarchy and most don't want that. Governments must have laws and we are no exception. We are also a country of freedoms, many of which get abused (just look at the recent protesters as one example). Laws and rules pertaining to everything from banking to campaign donations to welfare and everything in between get danced around, manipulated, and fraudelently abused daily from coast to coast.

When the constitution was written only property owners were meant to have the right to vote.

There is a balance that must be struck between laws and freedoms. I think most would agree to this, the disagreement comes on where the line is drawn.
