Pitbull: Thomson's next opponent is 'perplexing'

http://m.sherdog.com/news/news/Patricky-Freire-Perplexed-By-Matchmaking-for-Josh-Thomson-Ahead-of-Bellator-147-96523

Except it's not- he knows they're throwing Josha softball for his second fight in front of his hometown, likely trying to line him
up for the next shot at Brooks.

Hopefully, Pitbull wins in devastating fashion and gets it. After the altercation they had before vengeance, Patricky Pitbull vs Will Brooks sells itself. Phone Post 3.0

"He's a big name, it's in his city and they want to sell tickets. It makes sense. If the fight was in Natal I would be the main event. The only thing that doesn't make sense are the matchups he's getting. I understand the first one, but this? It's not that I'm disrespecting his opponent; anything can happen in a fight. But I just don't understand why put him against a guy who is 0-1 in Bellator and people hadn't heard about until now when basically the entire division was available.” Phone Post 3.0

I will watch this card for the Weichel/Karakhanyan fight, but yea, the main event is a joke. Thomson is being fed very soft opposition. It seems kind of pointless. The guy's resume speaks for itself, why make him fight nobodies to get a title shot? Just give him the damn title shot.

Pitbull vs Thomson and Anderson vs Villaseca would have been better, imo.

Pitbull wins- he's proved he's top contender and gets the shot at Brooks.

Thomson wins- he's taken out a Bellator vet and earned title shot. Phone Post 3.0

Ya idk what the hell is going on over there with the matchmaking it's weird

Even though he's one of the more exciting bellator vets I'm starting to think they just don't like pitbull
He asked for melvin guillard but they made guillard vs girtz instead and put him on the same card against someone else
Then they give thompson some can and pitbull is rematching anderson lower on the card

I was going to ask why so many people are talking about a title shot vs. Brooks when he just lost, but was Brooks' last fight a non-title bout? Shouldn't that guy be the obvious #1 contender regardless of what anyone else does?

I like Patricky's fighting style, but he has been consistantly one of the most overrated bellator fighters. He's not his brother, or even close. How many tournaments did he fail to win, like 3? He's lost to more than one guy, making their Bellator debut. What I'm trying to say is that Josh Thompson would probably make easy work of him. Thompson by 1st rd sub. Phone Post 3.0

I should also say, I agree with him that Thompson's opponent makes no sense. Josh has a very limited amount of time on mma, and they're wasting it. Phone Post 3.0

Patricky is 4-1 in his last five, that one loss being a decision loss to Marcin Held, who just fought Brooks for the title. Phone Post 3.0

Sorry, I meant Brooks just lost, but apparently I was wrong about that.

"“He's got great accomplishments, but he hasn't beaten anyone in the top 10 of Bellator's lightweight division,” Freire said. “Title shots can't just be granted purely because of your name. He needs to at least fight someone among the top 5 before getting a title shot.” Phone Post 3.0

Regarding Brooks-

Freire’s ultimate goal is a showdown with reigning lightweight king Will Brooks. Freire, along with his brother Patricio, were involved in an alleged altercation with Brooks two days before the American Top Team product’s title defense against Marcin Held at Bellator 145 in St. Louis. The incident was the culmination of weeks of trash talk between the “Pitbull” brothers and Brooks, and approximately one month later, Patrick Freire still has no love lost for the champion.

“I pity him. He's a fake trying to make people feel sorry for him and sympathize with him. He tries to play this good boy who listens to his mother and should behave better. He talks about his team, but those who knows him knows he hurts his training partners,” Freire said. “He goes around the gym thinking he's better than everyone there, doesn’t say hello to people, does not treat them with respect. He tries to make the media go with his script.

“People seem to forget he threatened me and my brother several times before, he even threatened everyone from our coaches to our translator on a press call the week before Patricio's last fight. I can't wait to have the chance to put my hands on him and make him swallow all the insults and lies he made towards us.”

It remains to be seen if a win over Anderson will get Freire his desired date with Brooks, especially with an accomplished veteran like Thomson looming. Freire makes a succinct case for himself as to why he would be the most deserving No. 1 contender should both he and Thomson emerge victorious at Bellator 147.

“Because I'll knock Will Brooks out, and people will love it,” he said. Phone Post 3.0

Agreed. Phone Post 3.0

If they both win Friday it should be-

Brooks vs Pitbull
Thomson vs Chandler Phone Post 3.0

I get why Thomson is headlining, but if he passes Pitbull up for the next title shot, that I won't get. Phone Post 3.0
