I will be stating near the Detroit airport tomorrow night and want to find a place to train. I want be able to travel far b/c I will be limited to how far the hotel fan service will take me which usually isn't to far. Anybody have any ideas for bjj/mma or wrestling. I don't have my Gi but if a place has one to borrow that's fine too. Anybody have any ideas. Would love to wrestle. Anybody have any ideas?
Near the airport limits you a lot. If they will take you near Wayne State University/West Warren Ave, you have a lot of good quality gyms.
Cooper's MMA (Muay Thai, Boxing, MMA, BJJ, Gi and No Gi).
Detroit Jiu Jitsu (Great BJJ School)
KRONK (Legendary Detroit boxing gym with a lot of home grown pro boxers and aspiring amateurs)
In Canton you have East West MMA/BJJ, a great gym.
MASH in Redford is an MMA gym.
Warrior's Way in Walled Lake.
Dan Severn has/had a school in MI, but its a bit of a drive, cold water I believe.
In Clinton Twp you have a couple Jamel BJJ schools and a Shootfighting/Kenpo School.
In Jackson you have Jackson MMA. Great school with emphasis on Judo.
The hub of talent is on West Warren though. Detroit BJJ is without a doubt the best BJJ in Detroit, and KRONK is close as well as Coopers which has a bit of everything.
All the gyms I mentioned can be found online. I have been to all the gyms at some point, and I think all offer no-gi or did when I attended.
Thx. Ttt. What about wrestling?
Ttt top
Best wrestling I have been to in state in at Severn's school and U of M. U of M has a submission grappling club and have some Judo, BJJ and Wrestling players in it.
Stars and Strikes kickboxing and MMA in Garden City is about a 15 minute drive from the airport. It's located in the plaza aty Warren & Venoy. They have a large team of active amateur mma'ers some blue and purple belt bjj guys to roll with and a new pro in Brian Householder. Brian and Andrew Morton are both ranked in Judo under me as well.

I forgot about Stars and Stripes! Never get out to Garden City anymore.
To be audacious, You can get better wrestling, BJJ, Boxing, ect, in MI, but the Stars ans Stripes staff does a job unlike any other gym in the state in that they combine a lot of different skill sets together for you. Striking was heavy kickboxing influenced with some Karate and TKD influence. Grappling was BJJ, Wrestling, Judo, freestyle and shoot wrestling influenced.
If you do not do something well, they will strengthen the transitions around the skill to make it stronger and less needed quickly.
Its a great gym, and something different from the standard BJJ/Muay Thai gyms that are common place now.
