Plane Crew Refuses to Believe Black Woman is a MD

baj54 - It is not out of the ordinary for flight crews to refuse help from passengers unless the pilot authorizes it. Even then it has to be an absolute necessity. How would you feel if the company in charge of your loved ones safety decides it's okay to allow a complete stranger to perform medical treatment incorrectly and that person dies? Who is at fault? The doctor, the airlines? Phone Post 3.0

I dunno. Once on a transatlantic flight a woman fainted in the aisle directly beside my seat.

The flight crew walked up and down asking "Is anyone here a doctor?" And when they found one, they brought him directly to the woman.

The doctor in question (actually just a resident, not a full attending yet) was a member of the NAACP in college and then went to a black medical school. Sounds quite politicized right off the bat. I doubt her story.

make america great again my friend

I'm voting for Hillary dummy. This has nothing to do with Trump. If this were legit, it would be a major story. There would be witnesses. There would be interviews with Delta employees. There would be a legit news organization covering this story. It might turn out that this is true and it really happened. But i doubt it. The way she describes it sounds like bullshit so until there is something other than her account of the story, I'm gonna call bullshit. Phone Post 3.0
Lol. So because he smells bullshit about this story, as do I, that makes him a Trump supporter.

You are one unhinged fuckstick. Phone Post 3.0

A doctor got told to sit down by an air waitress.

White347LX - Her story is compelling. No way anyone just thought, "oh she's a black woman so there's no way she's a doctor." There has to be more to it, like she was dressed like a retard, drunk, something.
Dumbest post I have read in a really long time. Your statement actually says that you don't believe in racism or prejudice.

Guess what?

You are the problem in this story. You are the person who would have sneered at her when she said she was a doctor. Phone Post 3.0

I don't think anyone is naive enough to believe racism doesnt exist on all sides, hell im half cast and ive been racially abused a lot of times growing up playing sport.

I think he is just saying her story seems a little off and perhaps embellished and I tend to agree. There could be more to it then her being black, there are some stupid people in this world and to think someone is not a doctor because they are black seems crazy to me.

I see black doctors all the time on tv lol Phone Post 3.0

Why?

I'm a white male married to a black woman for the past 16 years. I've personally witnessed multiple times when my wife's been disregarded because of her race.

The best was when she was a figure skating coach in South Carolina. I was there (I don't skate, I was just hanging out), and someone calls. She talks with them, sets an appointment for a prospective student to come in and talk with her in about an hour.

An hour comes, and my wife's waiting, at the front counter, in her coach's outfit with her name on her jacket. A woman walks in, looks directly at my wife, walks past her and approaches the skate rental person on duty, asking for my wife by first name. The employee points my wife out, and the person's response was, "Oh no dear, I mean the one who's the figure skating coach, not her."

"K*** is the figure skating coach," the counter guy says. The person's shocked, and refuses to believe that my wife can actually skate, even though she's in her coaching gear, in her fucking figure skates even.

So yes, that shit happens.

Sorry bud, a black skating coach would kind of be surprising.

I live in Canada, where almost EVERYONE skates and plays hockey. Year round.

If my son who plays hockey walked into his rep teams locker room for his tryout and the coach was black, I obviously wouldn't ask for credentials but it would be something that would surprise me initially.

Im not saying this woman didn't go through a legitimate instance of prejudice, because it sounds kind of like she did.
The fact she was questioned about her qualifications while the male physician was just allowed to begin working on the patient sucks.

But there are situations where you are initially surprised and it cant all be chalked up strictly to hate, and systemic racism amongst society.

Like I said if my sons hockey coach was black I would initially be surprised.
As would my black buddy if he showed
up to his sons basketball game and I, in all my white 5'9 glory was the coach. Phone Post 3.0

She was probably a suspect in a string of robberies, and a Muslim. I'll wait for TravenBjj to weigh in before I rush to judgment.

There are black doctors! Dr Dre.....well ok. There is one black dr.

But serious, this reminds me of the story thats been all over the news about the black kid who was a fake doctor and tricked all those people.

A doctor that uses the word "peeps" to refer to people. I can't imagine why Tamika doesn't get the respect that is clearly so well deserved.

Sounds more like sexism then racism.

RicGillespie - Sounds more like sexism then racism.

What difference does it make which order the oppression happened in? This won't stop until we eliminate white men from the Earf!

And there it is

Houston OBGYN Dr. Tamika Cross is blowing up Facebook with a maddening story of prejudice that's sure to make you grit your teeth in frustration. Dr. Cross was flying out of Detroit on a Delta flight when a man became unresponsive. She jumped in to help save him, only to find herself restrained by the flight crew, who were extremely skeptical that a black woman who had ever set foot in Detroit could be an M.D.

Here's the full post:I'm sure many of my fellow young, corporate America working women of color can all understand my frustration when I say I'm sick of being disrespected. Was on Delta flight DL945 and someone 2 rows in front of me was screaming for help. Her husband was unresponsive. I naturally jumped into Doctor mode as no one else was getting up. Unbuckle my seatbelt and throw my tray table up and as I'm about to stand up, flight attendant says "everyone stay calm, it's just a night terror, he is alright". I continue to watch the scene closely. A couple mins later he is unresponsive again and the flight attendant yells "call overhead for a physician on board". I raised my hand to grab her attention. She said to me "oh no sweetie put ur hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel, we don't have time to talk to you" I tried to inform her that I was a physician but I was continually cut off by condescending remarks. Then overhead they paged "any physician on board please press your button". I stare at her as I go to press my button. She said "oh wow you're an actual physician?" I reply yes. She said "let me see your credentials. What type of Doctor are you? Where do you work? Why were you in Detroit?" (Please remember this man is still in need of help and she is blocking my row from even standing up while
Bombarding me with questions). I respond "OBGYN, work in Houston, in Detroit for a wedding, but believe it or not they DO HAVE doctors in Detroit. Now excuse me so I can help the man in need". Another "seasoned" white male approaches the row and says he is a physician as well. She says to me "thanks for your help but he can help us, and he has his credentials". (Mind you he hasn't shown anything to her. Just showed up and fit the "description of a doctor") I stay seated. Mind blown. Blood boiling. (Man is responding the his questions and is seemingly better now Thank God) Then this heifer has the nerve to ask for my input on what to do next about 10 mins later. I tell her we need vitals and blood sugar. She comes back to report to me a BP of 80/50 (super low, to my non medical peeps) and they can't find a glucometer. We continue down that pathway of medical work up, but the point is she needed my help and I continued to help despite the choice words I had saved up for her. The patient and his wife weren't the problem, they needed help and we were mid flight. She came and apologized to me several times and offering me skymiles. I kindly refused. This is going higher than her."

BS meter goes wild on this one. And someecards.com is the source? Phone Post 3.0

This reminds me of the lady that asked for can of Coke and flight attendant told her I can't give it you because you will use it as a weapon. Then other passengers told her she looked like a terrorist. All the quotes were a little too convenient for her version.

People were outraged and the airline said it never happened like that. Then you find out she was part of activist. some group that went to White House several times. Phone Post 3.0
