PLEASE DO NOT Score Fights by FightMetric!

I think Shogun won the fight. But saying he won because he landed more strikes doesn't mean much, You have to consider how damaging the strikes were. Now, again, I think HE WON, but it's not all about numbers of strikes landed. Damage matters.

How about the Voice of God that MCd the event at UFC 36?

That's a fair point, but they also compute high vs low power strikes.

I know, but a high powered strike from George Foreman is a lot different than a high powered strike from Chris Byrd.

Actually, after looking at fightmetrics scoring for some of the more controversial fights in the past, I wish the UFC would decide fights based on them. They do a far better job then the regular judges.

works for some fights but not most machida vs shogun though i think it can be used the only real power strikes that were landed were to machidas body/legs

I agree that its not a point karate match

But its obvious who took more damage. Machida kept changing stance because his legs were battered, he had lost much of his movement and his face was bruised and cut up. Shogun was still fresh and aside from a welt on his rib there was not a single mark on him

Rua landed DOUBLE the number of strikes, obviously did far more damage, and was the aggressor throughout.

Rua's strikes were obviously more damaging than Machida's, in addition to landing almost twice as many of them, in addition to being the only guy trying to make a fight by pressing forward, going for takedowns, etc.

RUA TOTAL STRIKES LANDED : 82

MACHIDA TOTAL STRIKES LANDED : 42

Strikes landed per round:

Round 1:

Rua - 19

Machida - 11

Round 2:

Rua - 21

Machida - 7

Round 3:

Rua - 19

Machida - 15

Round 4:

Rua - 10

Machida - 3

Round 5:

Rua - 13

Machida - 6

It is absolutely ludicrous that any round other than possibly the third was given to Lyoto. Rua threw more, he landed almost twice as many in every round but the third (and 3x as many in the 2nd and 4th), he landed the harder shots throughout, and he was the aggressor.

Shogun certainly won the fight, one of biggest robberies in UFC history.
