that was a heckuva fight those two had. back and forth action with neither giving an inch. looks like the myth about de leon's power might have been exposed though.
I just think Caballero had a freaky ass chin. Ponce damn near decapitated the guy on a couple of occasions and the guy still didn't go anywhere. I do believe he had Caballero hurt in the 12th round though.
Great fight, can't wait to see Ponce try to bounce back.
I thought the fight was a lot closer than the judges had it....118-109???? WTF? And Raul Marquez' card was just as bad IMO.
No defense, but hella fun to watch especially the 12th.
it was on dlh's hbo latino show. i thought de leon might stop him in the 12th but caballero just kept coming back. caballero is really lanky
Actually I had the exact same card as Marquez, but we disagreed on a couple of rounds here and there. After the first punch that Ponce threw I said that a good technical boxer with a job was going to beat him. I did not however place his oppoenent in that category, and thought Ponce would get him eventually, and he almost did. Neither guy made me say, Wow I can't wait to see them again, But it was a good fight.
One other thing I noticed was Ponce was given every opportunity. He hit dud low on several occassions and the ref never really said anything, I saw him try to headbutt Caballero one several different occassions and the ref only said something to him once about it. He is lucky Caballero did not have big power or that fight would have never went to the cards.
I missed it!
Ive always been impressed by Ponce's toughness and conditioning, but it does not seem like he has much of a regard for defense.
