I was watching a football game right now and one team got penalized for excess celebration. I want to know why.
I myself have been chastised for one of my win celebrations. I got grief from a lot of people over it, the commission, some fighters, and at least one of my friends. My friend told me that it cheapened my win. By the consensus of what I have been told it must really be unsportsmanlike to celebrate or at least to over celebrate.
Not to sound too dense but I really am not grasping what the unsportsmanlike part of celebrating my victory or even why in the football game they were penalized. I do understand that people have an issue with it and don't disagree with anyone for that, I would just like to understand the rational for it being wrong and not any one specific case but rather in general.
I'm looking for answers from the concise to the exhaustive as long as they are honest. Thank you.

NFL rules are notoriously stringent about celebration penalties. Recently a guy got fined $10k for a celebration. Which is more than the standard fine for hits that are deemed to have been delivered with intent to injure, which is ridiculous on any number of levels.
I agree with you; I don't think there's anything wrong with being happy about a win. There's a clear difference between celebrating and rubbing the guy's face in it.
Because pussies can sympathize more with a loser than a winner, as long as you arent directly disrespecting your opponent or your sport there shouldnt be a problem with it. People need to grow thicker skins these days.
It's a penatly for excess celebration...NOT unsportsmanlike conduct.
It is just a rule to attempt to retain some control over the game. If they didn't have "some" degree of restraint...who knows what some people would come up with.

I think u should now call your friend Judas.
if it aint the championship, wtf are you so happy about.
Thanks guys, and for the record, I'm not disagreeing that it's wrong/excessive/unsportsmanlike, I'm just wondering why it's considered so. I'm trying to understand their position and respectfully so.
watch the first ten minutes of baseketball my friend

To keep control of the game...or try to. Plain and simple. They have to have some sort of rule in place so that Touchdown Celebrations don't get carried away. If they were just allowed to do whatever they wanted...things could get crazy fast.
It's not about the other people having tougher skin, rather they rub it in the other teams face, etc. The penalty is JUST for excessive celebration...
I enjoy seeing some of the things, but I can also understand the NFL's position...they are trying to keep control
Dropping your pants and crapping on your downed opponent might be seen as a little over the top?

LOL...I always thought it would be funny if after a guy KOs the other, that he tells everyone to back up and pulls out his cup and places it over the guys mouth like oxygen.
(Of course...WAY over the top...but a funny visual)
For an example why it's disrespectful, see Terrell Owens when he played against the Cowboys. If you allow celebrations like that, you are going to have some serious fights

LOL! Exactly!
because it's thoughtless and looks pathetic.
snow angels are pretty
Renzo Gracie stepped on a guy's head after a fight was officially over.
Zero class.
Because in the NFL it evolves into the team going out and doing a choreographed broadway dance number after getting a routine tackle or some joker shuffling and jitterbugging around while the rest of the guys link arms and do the can-can behind him like some vegas showgirls after a 1st down.
Plus as stated earlier, it will lead to fights and you don't need two teams of 50 professional athletes and 2 kickers to be out there brawling uncontrollably.
Nobody said you they can't celebrate. The key word is EXCESSIVE celebration.
my grandad always told me "when you win, or even score for that matter, act like you've done it before. only a jerk makes a big deal out of doing his job"
i have always tried hard to do just that. nobody likes a jackass winner. be respectful and act like that was exactly what you thought would happen, not all surprised and excited like you just won the freakin lottery (or found out the kid isn't yours).

its not thoughtless its not pathetic. celabrate your victory any way you want as long as you dont disrespect your opponent.
