OnMilwaukee.com reports that an “Anti-MMA” bill in Wisconsin is still alive but is fading quickly. If passed, the bill could ban mixed martial arts in over 1,200 towns in the state.

Duke Roufus of Roufus Sport has lobbied against the measure. You may recall Roufus is the trainer for MMA fighters including Anthony Pettis and his gym is located in Milwaukee
The actual bill authorizes towns to pass ordinances banning MMA. The state’s Department of Safety and Professional Services governs the regulation of MMA in the state. The proposed bill would grant local government the authority to ban MMA in its town.
Via OnMilwaukee.com:
Referred to as “Wisconsin’s Anti-MMA Bill”, AB-308 was authored by Representative Patricia Strachota and co-sponsored by Senator Glenn Grothman in October of 2011, just a year removed from Wisconsin’s adoption of mixed martial arts regulations designed to create statewide safety and regulatory standards.
The bill’s sponsors actually supported the original legislation adopting MMA regulations. The change in course is puzzling to Roufus and supporters of MMA of that state.
Payout Perspective:
If passed, it would be a definite blow to MMA in the state. The story suggests that MMA cards are just being organized and to repeal the MMA regulations would be a disappointment for MMA fans. The bill is not as definite as New York’s ban as the pertinent language gives a town the authority to ban MMA. So, it would really be up to the local governing body whether it would enact a ban. The bill appears to be losing support but we will continue to monitor.

WAR Roufusport for doing such hard work to get this bill shot down.
We all need to align and help in any way we can!

Dana White hasn't spoken out on this because he doesn't give a damn.
Which goes back to caring less about legalizing MMA in New York and more about just wanting events in Madison Square Garden.
Everyone seems to care about NY.
How many responses do we have here?
Exactly.
I'd rather the folks of Wisconsin be able to get a show. New York has EVERYTHING they want and can hop over to NJ or run down to Philly to get MMA.
Wisconsin has no such luxury.
Support this measure equally or admit that you aren't so much fighting for MMA to be legal but really are just wanting UFC in New York City because THAT is the only reason everyone has an opinion on that bill.

I agree with what you said for the most part.
I do want to add though; if you look up the two politicians that introduced the bill ... you will see they are REPUBLICAN.

Lol, Republicans seem to always find themselves in a role akin to an Arch Villain. I only mention this to show people how Republicans ruin everything pretty much.

Interesting considering 87% of all previous "anti-mma" bills nationwide were introduced by democrats. The same party that pushes individual weakness, general dependency, and overall government control in every other area of legislation.
In fact the two republicans that introduced this bill were primarily involved in getting MMA legalized in the state in the first place and are not against it as sport at all.
While I don't agree with the bill in its current form, it's easy to see why republicans are introducing it. It would reduce overall costs to the state and from taxpayers. It is to give regulation and control to local governing bodies instead of at the state level. This would reduce the overall costs that would come from state budgets and pass them to the towns that wish to host the fights. Those towns would also be able to reap the benefits of the revenue generated from the fees to promoters and local taxes generated instead of the state itself.
This is not about banning MMA and is being a little over blown by people who don't understand the bill. The only way it would ban MMA in the state is if the people in every town in the state voted to not allow MMA in their specific towns.
