protein/creatine question

i'm looking to start with protein shakes after staying off them for a while. any recommendations for high quality protein powder? i lift weights(not heavy) and do some jkd/bjj.

i used to take lean gainer which worked really well for me but i think it has been discontinued so was looking for a replacement.

thanks for any help

However I should add that it's becoming trendy to avoid protein supplements, as they can be viewed as a colossal waste of money and have the potential of quickly converting your body into an veritable Cauldron of Acidosis.

A bit OT maybe but while you're at it todd (and anyone really)..

What's the rule of thumb for protein supplements? I've observed the forums for a while, went a bit through the archives and read about them on a few websites, what I saw was like 50/50 opinions/experiences of it works/it doesnt work or it's even harmful (in wrong doses). In one post a guy said he didn't know if it was his supplements who helped or the increased amount of exercise he started since taking them, is there a bit of placebo effect? On the other hand I've seen people with awesome (bodybuilding) results as well.. so?

Again sry if it's OT but i really want to know :) thx

Protein supplements help build muscle. There is no disputing that.

I'm not sure how a protein supplement could be harmful, unless you are lactose intolerant.

But eating chicken, lean beef, tuna, eggs, milk etc etc is just as good and doesn't cost nearly as much.

And yes, I realize protein supplements are "more convenient" than grilling chicken breasts at work, so nobody needs to bring up that tired argument.

I see, thx, going to eat lots of chicken, tuna and drink more milk now heh

CytoGainer and Muscle Milk from cytoplex. I love these two. They work for me and are realatively cheap. I get CytoGainer at Nutrisport for 39 dollars for 5lb tub.

What is the negative effects on "quickly converting your body into an veritable Cauldron of Acidosis." as toddseney put it?

someholdsbarred,

This article explains why athletes should avoid chronic acidosis:

toddseney - great article. I now realize that I'm undoubtedly a boiling "cauldron of acidosis". I guess ole Popeye was right about eating your spinach.

read the article...
If I interpret the article correctly acidosis lead to "GH resistance", which is a bit of a catastrophy for people lifting weight.

I use EAS myloplex..works for me

if i missed my creatine 5 gram intake per day for 3 days do i have to reload?

flipdid, no. Creatine takes a few weeks to begin decreasing once the bodies stores are full. Missing three days won't make much difference at all.
