I plan on traveling with a ziplock of protein then packed into my shaker which will then be packed into my carry on. Will it be worth the risk or will I have to throw it away? 
I've travelled with creatine in my carry-on before. It was in the original container but since it was a white powder they wanted to test it to make sure it wasn't anything illegal. Takes about a minute extra then you're good to go.
