None of the Coaches that you have seen on TUF were trained by the UFC. They have been very good fighters that have a good relationship with the UFC. Also all the fighters that you have seen on TUF were talented fighters, they may have learned more by training with elite fighters but they were not trained by the Coaches. You don't become a decent striker, wrestler, or submission guy in 6 weeks or so.
Judo may be a great martial art, however its application in MMA is not easy. Karo is one of the few guys to use judo efficiently in MMA. Wrist locks are not that effective in general to a trained fighter who understands leverage, however I'm sure that as Karo is with Judo there is someone who can fgure out some sort of variation of a wristlock that can be effective.
"oh and quit wasting your time with I-Key-Do!!! haha!" dego if you had seen my sensei throwing around four men at once no problem you wouldn't say that.
Joe the real problem is that Aikido is a very sophisticated art so you would need to be pretty advanced to use it properly in the octogan. Like fifth dan or above - and those guys will all be above entering a sporting event like the UFC - you're starting to get pretty enlightened by fifth dan.
I still think there's scope though to do not necessarily aikido, but just some wristlocks as a get out of jail free card (e.g. grab a glove when they try and punch from mount and use the wrist to leverage them off and escape)
"None of the Coaches that you have seen on TUF were trained by the UFC. " I'm confused. On TUF you see the UFC Training Centre. What do they use this for when TUF isn't on? I assumed there were a bunch of these dotted round the country?

it may be tough to get a wrist lock on a guy who has his hands and wrists taped for a fight. especially since the point of the tape is to keep the wrist from bending.

Looks like your starting to modify your stance a little.....It is possible to do some but as others have pointed out the gloves, tape and sweat make them low percentage moves. 1 wrist lock that comes to mind is if you catch an armbar and the guy caught grabs his own arm stopping you from locking it, you can apply a wristlock there.
Fame and fortune don't matter that much to the advanced guys. Sure if they came in and cleaned the deck using a style no one's seen used before it would be a huge payday and recognition - but that's not what they're about. They're about a more quiet strength, secure in their own knowledge and inner wisdom.
Would such a win improve Aikdo's membership? Maybe. But it would attract the wrong sort of student. As is it is one of the nice things about Aikido is you tend to get pretty intelligent thoughtful people training because that's the type of art it is. A high level shihan winning a UFC would get people through the door but how many of them would be meat heads just looking to hurt people? That's not what we'd want.
i agree that Aikido attracts a different sort of person, the type of person who doesnt want to fight but does a martial art to boost there selfconfidence.
Why dont you get Steven Segal to enter the Cotagon, or his he to deadly?

Go back and watch UFC 1 and 2 if you want to see style against style. The athletes in todays UFC excel more on their individual abilities rather than the effectiveness of a single art.
If the original poster wants to test his wristlock theory, lets get in contact with joe silva and put him in there with lets say.....Nick Diaz. Tasseled will lose faster than Babalu did last night
You mean to tell me when you are fighting you really have the opportunity for a wrist lock. If it wasn't bad enough that your opponent is trying to knock your head off, but you mean to tell me you are going to apply a wrist lock and stop a fight?
Highly doubtful, but please try and let me know how your hospital bill turns out.
No disrespect to your art but this would just do absolutely no good in MMA.
i would love to see Tassled One enter the Octagon. i am willing to be he is an 18yr old computer geek who has only ever watched UFC, never trained MMA and has been brainwashed into wearing a hakima by watching Steven Segal movies haha
yeah easy to pick on the new guy huh. No brainwashing required, once you feel your self fly through the air completely against your will with no idea what happened you're hooked. You should try it.
Tassled one you are obviously a brainwashed fool, grow up and have an MMA fight. Get Steven Segal to show you the deadly secrets and show us al how its done. i would love to see it, i bet you would even have a Tasseled fight outfight haha hell i would even fight you if you were in the same city. would gladly video yougetting Ground and pounded while you tried to wrist lock me and show the UG how bad your skills are.
