Question for fighters....

...who live in countries with socialized medicine.

How do you deal with medical requirements for fighting? In the US, a lot of the time the insurance companies will not cover medical expenses that are not "necessary" - like those for an athletic commission. We usually end up paying out of pocket if the promotion does not pay for them.

Does your medical system allow you to have "unnecessary" medical tests? Does it take you a long time to get in? Or do you just get them done when you arrive in the U.S. or wherever you will be fighting?

I live in Canada, and with most fights we contract the promoter to pay for additional medical expenses. Also, through my day time job we have the option of additional medical insurance for a small monthly premium, so if i need an extra eye exam, its covered. Time to get in? About 1 hour.  On a slow day.
