R.I.P. MR. DUTCH SAVAGE!!!!!!!

SAD NEWS TODAY PEOPLE:

Most hardcore wrestling fans will know of this standup individual. the Noobz will not.

Last night at around 11pm former Pro Wrestling star(back in the DAY) Mr. DUTCH SAVAGE passed away due to complications from a massive stroke suffered a few weeks ago.

I was asked by my good friend to please post this online as his father actually had been filling in for Mr. Savage while he was in the hospital.(Dutch Savage had is own ministry i believe).

I had only met Mr. Savage one time BUT he was quite a conversationalist(albeit a bit GRUFF) and he CERTAINLY KNEW HIS STUFF when it came to Hooking and Catch Wrestling and how they both related to "todays" BJJ. (He kept calling the techniques i would talk about by COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NAMES, but he knew what i was talking about....by FAR)

REST IN PEACE MISTER DUTCH SAVAGE!!! YOU WILL BE MISSED BY MANY!!!!

Big Time Wrestling, Hank Renner, Roy Shire, Cow Palace !! Man, I grew up watching that stuff. I remember when Dutch wrestled here - he was challenging Pat Patterson for the United States title belt. His "finishing move" was the deadly pile driver. He was also one of the big name wrestlers they would always bring in for the Battle Royal at the Cow Palace.

RIP Dutch.

Chitat, you would not believe me if I told you all of the events that I went to at the Cow Palace,San Jose Civic & the Uptown Arena in Modesto. You are right about Dutch, they mostly saved him for the live events, kind of like Terrible Ted the wrestling bear.

i had actually met him about a year or so ago through a good friend of mine(the same dude who showed me my FIRST UFC back in 94!!!!). He immediately started talking to me(albeit about his ministry and beliefs, which was fine) but after i brought up MMA he referred to it as "hooking" or "catch as catch can wrestling" and started calling off different names every time i tried name dropping a technique i knew......"BAAAAAHHHHH!!!! THATS just another name for a FIGURE FOUR TOE HOLD!!!!..........GGGrrrrr.......?!"

he was certainly pleasent to talk to(for a short time)

old timers are just not that into "MMA" in the modern sense me thinks!!!

anyways,

R.I.P. MR. SAVAGE!!!!!!

my mother used to watch him ALL THE TIME down at the "Sandy Barr Fleamarket" or Sandy Barr Wrestling i think it was called....oh...PORTLAND WRESTLING. that was it!!! sorry.

Cool, I really envy you as as I was totally into Big Time Wrestling back then. I wish I could have went to some of those cards at the Cow Palace. My parents wouldn't take us saying that "wrestling is fake", even though my dad used to watch it with us all the time. By the time I was able to drive and get a decent enough vehicle, the promotion had folded up. We did get to go to some of the AWA shows at the Oakland Coliseum and at the Cow Palace when they came around, but it wasn't the same.

Some of my favs from the day were Patterson and Stevens, Shibuya, The Soulman (Rock's dad), Peter Maivia (Rock's grandpa), Gerhart Kaiser, Moondog Mayne, etc. One of my brother's friends used to date one of Ray Steven's son's sister in law and I got to be friends with him.

I liked Patterson the best and Moondog Mayne because he would cut himself with glass and eat goldfish (After he turned face of course) I thought Kaiser was a manager like Dr.Ken Ramey?

I grew up watching him on Portland wrestling. He had a real estate business in the Portland area..RIP Phone Post

Yeah, Kaiser was the manager with the Nazi gimmick.
