Article talks about why the 10-point must system doesn't work for MMA:
"MMA judges often use the 10-9 score to describe both razor-close rounds where it is neither fighter gains a significant advantage over the other (i.e. the first two rounds of Machida vs. “Rampage”) and frames where there one fighter clearly wins but does not absolutely dominate (i.e. round three of that fight). This is also true for scores in boxing. However, in boxing, a couple of extremely close rounds being scored 10-9 is not as much of a problem because boxers have up to 12 rounds in which to turn the tide and impose their will on opponents even though they may fall behind early. That is not the case in MMA, where losing two razor-close rounds 10-9 makes it essentially impossible (in non-title fights) to come back from unless you finish your opponent."

All this talk about changing the scoring system does no justice to the fact the current system works fine when judges don't suck.
And yet, we know judges do suck. So how many times are we going to look for band-aid solutions to this problem hoping we can just ignore the underlying issue?
Come on people, THE JUDGES IN THIS SPORT ARE FUCKING HORRENDOUS, give them ANY scoring system and they'll still fuck it up.
This is seriously key. Instead of searching for new scoring systems, let's aggressively push for these refs to start using 10-10 rounds, 10-8 rounds, and most important push for these refs to actually know what the fuck they're talking about.
I had Machida winning, just a close fight to call. Turn win bonuses into finish bonuses and they soon be more aggressive.
Be nice if we actually saw more "draws" since more and more of these decisions are are awfully close.
Maybe one day we'll get more 5 rounders so we can actually see more finishes, hopefully.
Don't really understand why boxers are allowed to fight for 30-36 minutes, but you're telling me UFC can only have 15 and 25 minute fights? Why not make, lets say, all main events (that'd be at least two on each card roughly) that could be 5 rounders, even if they aren't for the title. Maybe it wouldn't change the outcome of some of these fights, but you never know.
Who wouldn't of wanted to see Page and Machida go for 5 after the first 3.
Even if they use the half point system, the fight was a draw at best.
StoutGapedTheQueen - I don't see what the problem is.I think he did try to turn it on. That's why he went for two high risk subs that failed: the armbar from the mount and the drop down heel hook.
Machida should have tried to finish if he knew he was down two rounds.
