In hindsight, now that we know how it went, was Rampages decision good or bad? His first fight under his tutilage was Pride 30 and he went on a spree that went all the way to winning and defending the UFC LHW belt (dethroning Liddell in the process). I remember Ibarra saying Jackson had become an unmanagable party animal. Rampage said Ibarra was greedy and manipulative. Rampage has never been the same again in the ring/cage in my opinion since the Ibarra split.
Wasn't this around the time of the forest fight and the road rage incident that the split happened?
I'm interested to know more details about what it was all about if there's more to the story out there
As far as good or bad I don't know
I don't know but I haven't heard his name in years. Didn't he coach belfort and Tito at some point as well?
nah... I think he just tailed off.. his prime was over... when he was 30, he had already been fighting for almost a decade against the absolute best of the best - Wand 2x, Arona, Shogun, Chuck, Igor etc....
Even after losing to Forrest, he still earned another title shot but Jones was just wrecking everyone. No one was touching Jones.
I think Rampage's prime years were 26-31 and he's been able to hang on to 38 because of natural talent and toughness. He doesn't train hard but whole the door slams, he's gonna fight. He's not gonna go in there just for a paycheck.
Bad IMO
^ performance wise anyway, but if you're getting swindled, best nip that shit in the bud straight away.
Team Oyama got something for yo mama
He was a man of his words, he said if page loses to forest that he would retire
MartialArtsM1xed - He was a man of his words, he said if page loses to forest that he would retire
really?
Good thread. FRB is on point.
Maybe some of it was money and success too. I think Rampage attained a certain amount of financial security that led to him taking his foot off the pedal in preparation.
Always thought he went downhillafter splitting for Ibarra but think ue stole from him so understandable
SensoriaUtopia -essentially what frb said,
Juanito was ripping off Rampage, he took a lot of money per Rampage, who would want a manager or trainer that steals money
Rampage still had a lot of success after Juanito also, just a combo of age and lack of motivation and probably not making his training stay with new trends
He gets a percentage that was agreed upon prior to anything even taking place, if Page wants to train elsewhere then fine, but don't bitch about someone taking the agreed upon percentage. Page signed the contract, and since leaving he's absolutely dropped off in every way.
He should be ashamed of how he looked the other night, he's just ripping off the fans who bought tickets to watch him. Nothing more.
Pierre St-George -MartialArtsM1xed - He was a man of his words, he said if page loses to forest that he would retirereally?
Yes, and he retired from being a longshoreman shortly after.
No idea if he was ever employed in such a way.
In 2009, Ibarra filed suit in Los Angeles, California against both Jackson and Ortiz for various public statements alleging Ibarra had stolen from Jackson and otherwise used Jackson for personal aggrandizement in the course of his role as Jackson's manager.
"I made these remarks based on what Rampage had told me. After several years in court and review of all the available records, I realize that Mr. Jackson and I were wrong. Juanito didn't steal from or take advantage of Rampage and he didn't mismanage Rampage's money?it was all accounted for. I regret the effect my words had on Juanito's life. Juanito is a trainer and manager of superior skills and the fact is, he helped to make Rampage a champion. Anyone would be blessed to be taught by Juanito. So there is no confusion, and so the public and the MMA, boxing and sports community at large know, I retract all of the negative statements, inferences and accusations that I directed at Juanito and sincerely apologize to Juanito and his family.
def bad, and it's pretty obvious
his boxing skills were on point with ibarra

If someone was stealing money from him, probably a good split
I thought the split was due to monetary discrepancies. If so, can't stay regardless of training.
^^The two posts above me should read pharochuck's post. Rampage has a tendency to think that people are out to get him.
