In an extended, two-part interview with Rattleing the Cage MMA's Tony Reid, Kevin "The Monster" Randleman expresses gratitude for the current state of mixed martial arts, and nostalgia for the raw old days.

"MMA is the best, the largest growing sport in the world right now," said Randleman. "Thanks to guys like Dana White, the Fertitta brothers, Scott Coker, Bryan from Pure MMA, Titan, Bellator...Thank you guys for helping guys like me know that we have a future and that we can be something, even if it's just to my son, and my son says, 'Wow dad, that was you. I want to be like you.' I'm thanking you for that."

Those however are not The Monster's sole feelings on MMA.

"The early days of the UFC was pure. It wasn't a bunch of commercial s---. It wasn't a bunch of f------ bureaucrats trying to change everything, and you didn't have owners that thought their s--- didn't stink."

"There were no weight classes. It was just two guys in there. Guys could be 40-pounds heavier or bigger. Now, everyone is crying about a difference in five pounds."

"Nothing is ever going to be pure again like that. Granted, now the changes in rules is for the safety, but back in the day, it was as raw as it gets."

"I've always given accolades to (the UFC) for everything they've done for the sport and keeping it around, but the bottom line is, they're not the f------ sport. Every guy that fights, we're the sport, and without us, there ain't, there won't, there is no fights.

"Until we get together and unionize ourselves, there's not going to be a bigger payday... It's going to take another company with a guy with some big money that can take fighters away with big money and big promises, and you know what, it's coming."

"We as fighters, we're entitled to half of the pot. Without the fighters, the UFC would fold. Without the fighters, Bellator would fold. Without fighters willing to bang every day, it would fold.

"There should be insurance for every fighter that's on the company's f------ payroll. You should have insurance just like any other company should have. So if you're training and you're under contract with the UFC, you should have health insurance and life insurance.

"(MMA) is not a rich man's sport. It's just rich men that own the sport. It's a blue collar man's sport, and blue collar men should have more say in what goes on...You ain't Michael Vick, and we ain't f------ dogs."

Randelman speaks the truth! Guys at his level should be bringing in more cash. It's too bad cause he probably doesn't have a whole lot of cash stacked, Love to see him involved with MMA in some administration type roll or media spot. :) Phone Post

Guys at his level? He's 17-16 on a four fight losing streak. How much can he expect? Phone Post

Every dog has there day. His best may be behind him but at one time he was a champion. Don't forget that. Phone Post

Maybe I misunderstood the quote, can't watch vid rt now, but why was he talking about a lack of health insurance for UFC fighters?

Also I disagree with fighter pay not going up, and disagree with fighters deserving half the pot considering the amount of cash UFC pours into lobbying opening new markets and other such ventures that would never exist in a Boxing style individual promoter - fighter relationship, but he's certainly right that w/o a Union fighter pay is going to scale up disproportionately to company size...

Course if MMA starts plateauing I'll be damn happy the current UFC model is in effect and not the individual style of boxing which makes it so much easier for a sport to collapse or trough -- not saying boxing is doing that at all, just making a point about the risk with not having a central organization to run shit

He's just babbling mindlessly about what he's "entitled" to.

I love Kevin but LOL@ some of this crap!

"I've always given accolades to (the UFC) for everything they've done for the sport and keeping it around, but the bottom line is, they're not the f------ sport. Every guy that fights, we're the sport, and without us, there ain't, there won't, there is no fights.

And w/o successful promoters the fighters aren't necessary so what's his point?

"Until we get together and unionize ourselves, there's not going to be a bigger payday... It's going to take another company with a guy with some big money that can take fighters away with big money and big promises, and you know what, it's coming."

LOL! Like Bodog, Pride, Elite, Affliction and the IFL? Yeah, money is all it take:/ I wonder how much help a union would have been with his suspension for submitting non-human urine for a drug test.

"We as fighters, we're entitled to half of the pot. Without the fighters, the UFC would fold. Without the fighters, Bellator would fold. Without fighters willing to bang every day, it would fold.

Half? LMFAO!!! If they want half then let them ante up dollar for dollar with Zuffa and then split the pot:) Half! GTFO!

"There should be insurance for every fighter that's on the company's f------ payroll. You should have insurance just like any other company should have. So if you're training and you're under contract with the UFC, you should have health insurance and life insurance.

Pfft! They do have insurance that covers them for non-event related injuries, medications and therapies. And the UFC is the ONLY promoter offering this to their roster. I have no clue about life insurance.

"(MMA) is not a rich man's sport. It's just rich men that own the sport. It's a blue collar man's sport, and blue collar men should have more say in what goes on...You ain't Michael Vick, and we ain't f------ dogs."

LOL@ this shit! What's funny is that Kevin could have mentioned some of this when he was face to face in a meeting a few months ago. He thought DW and the Bro-titta's walked on water then. And they went out of their way to try and do him a favor (helped him try to get a position as a HS wrestling coach at Gorman in Vegas) and now he wants to talk shit? What a POS.

Even with all of Kevin's skeletons I bet DW and the bros. would have considered giving him another payday inside the Octagon just to fill his soul again like it used to back in the day. What a disrespectful little prick. The next time he wants help trying to get a job or another fight I hope they don't let him waste their time... again. Disappointed in this guy now:(

Wow, if this isn't fighter bashing, I don't know what is. The guy is giving his opinion, do you really have to belittle him and call him a piece of shit?

How is this person still a green arrow?

And I gave mine. I have always been a supporter of the Kevin but I think he was two-faced in this situation.

You don't have to like my opinion and neither does anyone else. I know it's kewl to hate on the UFC and it's owners but he's full of shit about the things I bolded above and I said why.

If you have a problem with my posts I suggest you put me on ignore. What's funny to me is that the folks having a problem with what I posted aren't disagreeing with my point of view, really. They just don't like that I said it. I think he was underhanded and I said why.

But LOL@ asking them for help and then shitting on them like this:)

Your point of view means shit because it is Dana's point of view. You are an automaton. And your point of view isn't the issue, it's how you said it.

UFC may not be the f@#%!%& sport, but Kevin Randleman hasn't been "the f@#%!%& sport" since 2002 minus one good punch against Crocop.

the sport was so pure.... when they didnt do steroid testing

In the Tyson documentary, Mike says some critical things about Don King. A few months after it came out, he was seen hand-in-hand, warmly embracing Don King.

Why is this? Sometimes, it's hard to push back against someone, especially when anger arises when the individual sees things differently away from a meeting or event (or when reviewing their finances).

Now for those criticizing Randleman, trying to make it seem like he's nothing, look at his resume:

-four UFC heavyweight title fights
-won UFC heavyweight title and made one defense
-KO'ed prime Mirko Cro Cop in one round
-Amazing supplex of Fedor Emelianenko
-D1 NCAA champion

Now will the current crop of elite wrestlers, UFC champions and former PRIDE fighters fare better than Kevin has financially? That's really what this all comes down to.

Finances, health and respect.

What's the plan to regulate MMA in a safe way that's beneficial to the guys (and gals) who have given so much?

Throwing insults around--from both sides--doesn't solve anything with regards to the major issues of the sport, which are currently unresolved. But it's hard not to see what Kevin is talking about.

is there a whale being tortured off camera?

wtf are those noises?

Cindy

No.

Fighters will always be more important than promoters.

Fans won't be talking about Cedric Kushner.

They will, however, still talk about De la Hoya vs Mosley.

Promoters are NECESSARY and good ones do in fact make a difference but the promoters are not as special as you are stating.

Baseball owners thought they were more important than players once.

It took Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa to remind them they were not.

Kevin Randleman may be many things and he certainly may have kissed ass to garner a high school coaching job before talking trash now.

But, without the fighters there is no magazine for Dana White to be on the cover.

There will always be a new promoter to make a buck off the fight game.

So long as there exists fighters that fans would pay to watch ply their trade.

Unless you think fans talk about Don King and how great he was instead of the fighter, Mike Tyson. Phone Post

Thatsjustlikeyouropinionman - How much did Dana pay you for that one, Cindy?

Probably 1.2 billions like Anderson Silva money. Phone Post
