how good is he at sub grappling?
he went the distance with jacare and really neutralized him. jacare just tapped drysdale.
but then randy was swept and was outgrappled (i know it's mma grappling) by big nog.
have you seen the match against Jacare?
Here is an over view.....Jacare was trying to attack the whole time and Couture looked like he was just trying to defend and take it the distance for the draw. He never even attempted to try and pass the guard.
i think Randys base and sub defense are very good, but as far as OVERALL sub- grappling....eh

Randy was taking Jacare down at will. He just couldn't get pass the guard.

he didnt take Jacare down at all!!! Jacare was pulling guard and shooting on Randy and Randy was sprawlling. Once they were on the ground he sat there and looked like a wrestler at NAGA. He sat in Jaca's guard and stalled and fended off sweep and sub attempts!
Here is a highlight of the match.....from the highlights could you tell it was a draw????

I remember seeing that match and I couldn't believe that Jacare got robbed like that.
I cant remember the rules exactly, but if they were scoring for aggressiveness and trying to finish the fight then Jacare should have got the judges nod. Couture had nothing for him and looked confused at times
As far as the Randy x Jacare match.....
That was A CLEAR case of randy running for his life for 10 minutes. The is absolutly NO QUESTION WHAT SO EVER that if that match was no time limit Randy would have been tapping

i agree with you Govnor that it is not his thing..... but dont go if you are not going to give it your best. He clearly went there to last the 10 minutes and collect his under the table appearance fee....
do you really think that couture would put his grappling reputation on the line against Jacare of all people for the spirit of competition????

Bullshit, Randy had Jacare's back with one hook in during the second round.
Randy did better with Jacare in grappling than Jacare would have done with Randy in MMA.
Jacare is sick.
I think the Randy/Jac and then Randy/Nog is a perfect case that just because so and so won or didnt win in grappling, it doesnt guarantee the same result in the grappling poriton in MMA.
Though its a good indicator of Randy's sub defense and though many acknowledge grappling and MMA are different, for one, Nog is bigger than Jacare. Nog is also one of the best MMA subgrappling guys.
Another thing about GNP in MMA. It does not guarantee a better result on the ground for someone like Randy on top. It has obvious advantages than in pure grappling but it also can make the top guy more aggressive and so more open to counters and attacks from the bottom.
Rali.....that doesnt score....also he got that off of Jacare going to attack Randys leg. The guy was shut tight and Jacare made a mistake by pressing the action and gave his back....(nice job on Randy getting that other hook and finishing though ;-)
me thinks you havent seen the match...its ok though Randy is very good in mma. great ground and pound and he is great at using his wrestling background in mma....he just is not anywhere near a top submission grappler....AND THAT IS OK!
When I heard that the match was going to take place, I actually thought Randy was going to be subbed and probably pretty quickly. Jacare is amazing, no doubt.
