- Passed Thiago's guard at least twice
2. almost took back but slipped off, when it gets sweaty...very tough to take the back
3. mounted Thiago in the 1st round
4. didnt get submitted...kept great position
5. did it at the highest level in from=nt of a huge audience
6. Thiago is 14-1 guys !!!!
7. Endorsed by Renzo and Rolles Gracie...as well as Greg Jackson...
8. Destroyed Forrest's guard
9. just my humble opinion...
Never been swept!
Oh yeah? And why do you think that you know anything about that?
JOKE!!
DravenTyler - I kind of think a BB should at least ATTEMPT a submission sometime within the last 4 years.
Enson, Arona, Vitor, and Jorge Gurgel would all disagree with that one! :)
Thiago got up. Whats the use of a take down (I know, other than the judges) if you dont finish or do any serious damage.
Rashad had to win or what would they do with Rampage?
Brasco - 1. Passed Thiago's guard at least twiceI'll call up Greg Nelson and see if he will promote Brock Lesnar to Black Belt.

Enson never attempted a submission?
What about when he SUBMITTED Randy Couture?
Arona never ATTEMPTED a submission?
LOL...you're even drunker than I am!!!!
Hunter V knows all. LOL, not so.
What BB's has he subbed? What grappling competitions has he performed well against black belts in?
lol
David Bollea - Didn't they say Rolls Gracie just gave Rashad his Black Belt earlier today before the fight?
Yes. Rolles even posted on his facebook as well abt it too.
Yes^. Well deserved.
Probably as deserved as Wanderlei's black belt.

10. Elite level athlete who trains 6 days a week with other elite athletes. There for he is going pick things up alot faster than average guys....
i may be remembering wrong, but i believe everytime he passed guard it was off of a takedown into sidecontrol
when he did get mount, thiago was against the cage and also managed to immediately escape with the deep half guard
a black belt with his level of wrestling should be a very dangerous fighter on the ground. thiago was never in any trouble there. if he does have the skills, i don't feel that he's shown them yet.
i can't say thiago looked all that impressive from his back though either

True, however still suspect to scrutiny considering the timing of the award.

lol, no I was just naming guys in the last 4yrs of their mma careers who were def legit black belts but were never trying to finish by subs. They used to be criticized to all levels of hell for either a) being standup up bangers who never use their bjj or b) ground and pounders who were content to do that vs pass and sub (you have to remember the amount of "Arona is boring" talk that was on the forum during Pride's glory days?)

Arona is a positional grappler in mma and no gi competitions. He uses superior positional grapplingt to win fights. Thats the great thing about bjj. There is a style of bjj for everyone. Arona is the last guy in the world you want to be under. His top game and guard passes are amazing. He has always been one of my favorite fighters and grapplers to watch.
in complete agreement subgrappler83, its just that people on this forum used to criticize him for being a "wrestler" who forgot how to use bjj (or at least how they view bjj). He had some of the best takedowns and positional dominance at 205 for years.
