The Ultimate Fighting Championship has been a hugely successful Mixed Martial Arts fight series that has had tremendous support and excellent viewer ratings for all of its events live and on television and the video game series is doing just as well. With UFC Trainer being released in January 2011, the series will take another huge step forward.

With a target audience of young men, the UFC titles released for xBox, Playstation3 or Wii have been a massively successful series for the games producers THQ Inc. In the style of most sports games, it is a title that can continue to be updated year after year with new fighters or stats from older fighters, and the graphics can be updated over and over again to take advantage of the PS3 or xBox or Wii console hardware.

Part of the appeal of the new title is that it will take advantage of the Kinect or Wii motion controllers, and the player's movements will have a far greater impact on the outcome of the simulated fight. If you can't swing fast, you are going to have your punch blocked. If you can't dodge your head, your virtual fighter is going to get a black eye. Obviously, this is a more realistic fighting scenario, but more importantly in my mind, it means that the teenagers who are playing these games, will have at least some incentive to exercise properly, or will actually be forced into some exercise, simply by moving and jumping around in the game.

And compared to sitting static on the couch, moving two thumbs, while their feet are kicked up on the foot stool, and they're laying back with their head on a pillow, compared to that, this game is a massive workout.

Who actually wants to work out when they're playing a videogame?

I LIKE sitting around with my feet up playing a game. I'll go workout after.

This is one of the first concepts I thought of when I saw the Kinect demos. I don't know if the potential is there yet to be done just right, but I find the concept very interesting. It will never take the place of professional in-person training but it could be a good introduction to the training styles and spark some interest to join a school somewhere.

The better the technology gets the more amazing knowledge we can gain from forum fighters

sooo...who's going to be the first person to claim they have a belt under master box

^ Im sure David Lang will be one of the first

Hey Mulletron 5000,
David Lang was found out to be legit black belt under Walid Ismail. Why are you still making fun of him?

Way to represent your class 10'er, you fucking moron.

The thing about the Kinect is, is that it's a controller.
It's not a required controller, but it's an available controller. So you really think people are going to say sure I'll get my ass beat just so I can feel better about their 200$ kinect purchase?

Nothing is going to beat the keyboard and mouse. A close second is a handheld game controller, and Kinect places 43rd on the list of good controllers right behind the Powerglove™ for Nintendo Entertainment System.

It's always entertaining when you see someone who doesn't know a thing about video games talk about them

so you want to be a virtual fighter ? ..
