So, I use to work out all the time, was 255lbs, strong as hell, looked good, it was great. Was just going to take a week off to rest, it has now been 3 months. Trying to get the motivation to go back is very tough. Especially knowing that I will be weak as hell when I go back. I know I just ahve to go, but anyone else ever have this happen to them?
hahaha!.. I do the smae thing.. "Ill start up again next week" then next week turns into forever... dude it got so bad for me football season when we beat Denver ;p.. I was drinking so much beer, eating candy and ice cream, carne asada burrtios, mcdonalds.. I was up to 210!! @ barely 5'10-511 and I am a relatively small framed guy..I was really not feeling well at all.. eating whatever I wanted..I have always gone back and forth bieng in shape and out of shape my whole life...but for about 5-6 months now I am @ 173 and in pretty good shape.. I can get in MUCH better shape but for where I was it's a drastic improvement...
Pick a day and follow through.. the fun part used to be seeing the results from hard work.. and now I have a very healthy mindset for nutrition and fitness.. it's a lifestyle not a destination to me anymore.. I don't want to drink excessively anymore.. and I don't want to eat greasy foods.. I was made to be an athlete so I know now that is how I will be forever.
Yea, I am 6'4 amd I use to be healthy as can be. I just really do not have the motivation anymore. But I am getting it back. Especially because its summer. I am a little worried about what I will eat during football season though.
I hear ya. Once you haven't been to the gym in awhile it's hard to face going back knowing you'll be so much weaker.
If it's any consolation, I find that after a layoff, for me anyway, stregth comes back fairly quick. It's that damn endurance thing that takes more time to regain.
But at times, my heart just isn't into weight training, in the traditional sense though. So instead of doing nothing, I try to do other routines. I'll do lots of pushups and HSPU's, pistols, HIIT stuff, workout a lot on the heavy bag, sprints.
So if you're not looking forward to making a return to the gym after a layoff, maybe try some other conditioning programs first right at home, to sort of ease back into things. You might find that when you do return to the weight room, you haven't slipped as far down the totem pole as you had thought.
I know this might sound stupid to you but you might want to
try Body for Life. It would give you a goal to work for and
who knows you could win some money. Don't they get
money and supplements sponsorship if you win?
I always had this wierd desire to get extremely weak and
skinny and work back to my buff self for fun.
Motivation is the key. I would just go today and once you
break this initial "back-to-the-gym" period of a couple of days
I bet it will be easier.
I like Stazher's reply too. Mixing it up could be good. Maybe
I'll try that.
I train in the early morning,so the night before,I put my gym clothes next to my bed.Doesn't sound like much, but mentally,I've prepared myself to go first thing in the morning.
SD, we both know you will not be drinking water. Unless you are talking about that Rocky Mountain Water Coors Light. You see Denver plays Oakland Christmas Eve? There are going to be some unhappy people spending Christmas Morning getting bailed out of jail. Also, I think God has finally heard me, all I want for Christmas is Denver to beat the Broncos, and this year God is setting it up for me.
really? didn't know that. I hope you guys beat the hell out of them. My buddy is from Denver.. big bronco fan.. I went to his house and he threw a denver blanket on me.. I started spazzing out and going into convulsions..lol.
Been going for about a week now, crazy thing is now I am addicted to lifting again. Oakland is going to have another bad year. Hopefully San Diego can have another solid year, a guy who I could say was my friend in college Vince Jackson got drafted by the Chargers in the second round. He has a little bit of an attitude problem, but he can produce WHEN HE WANTS TO. SHould be interesting to see how he does when he is not bigger and faster than everyone who covers him.
I used to have a coach that said: "Never get so far out of shape that you
have to fight your way back in."
I have only once let myself do that (when I was eighteen--many, many
years ago! :-)), and it was a BITCH to get back to it!
Now I keep myself at A- B+ shape year round (and have since I was
nineteen--I am about a week away from 43), and believe it or not it is
much easier to maintain.
