Bellator President Bjorn Rebney spoke to the media on Monday and defended the way his company did business in regards to title fights, and at the same time took a shot at Chael Sonnen and the UFC:

"Our point of difference is that we're real sports competition, and when it boils down to world title fights, when it boils down to crowning our champion at 170, or 55 or 45 or whatever weight class, guys are going to earn the right to fight for that championship and they're going to have to beat the champion. It's the toughest tournament in sports, it's real sports competition.
We're not sitting around waiting for some wrestler to lose two fights straight and then bark his way into a 205 world title fight. That's just not the essence of what we do."
He has a point but more than likely none of his fighters could challenge for a UFC title either. Not quite the same level. Also Bellator has never had to sell a PPV and not that they are trying they are using people that the UFC built up recognition for to do so. He has a point but also doesn't have much room to talk at the same time.

The UFC is absolutely a sports competition.. but it's also mixed with spectacle. It's called sports entertainment. Fans don't want pure competition. Fans want exciting fights and interesting match ups. The combination of the two is what has made the UFC so successful and what made it possible for organizations like Bellator and guys like Rebney to enjoy their own relative success. Apparently those guys have no problem thumbing their nose at the very process that made MMA has big as it is today. Good for them.
