I agree, Reem would decapitate some of the UFC heavies
NonstopRocker03 - Wait until he fights someone.
op should take this advice
he got outstruck by Werdum in his last fight
if Werdum doesn't flop and buttscoot, he wins that fight standing
that pic is awesome, so tender.

When you're afraid of the take down it changes striking. In a kick boxing match he'd ko werdum in moments.

C'mon now, seriously? You think if he doesn't flop every time Alistair throws a punch at him he wins that fight standing? It's pretty easy to "outstrike" someone if you flurry and then fall down as soon as they strike back. You don't think it might have gone a tad differently if Werdum didn't fall on his butt as soon as anything started coming back at him? Seriously?
Try sparring with someone who falls down to their back every time you throw a strike and get back to us.
Sheesh.
Look, I understand that massive amounts of hype can lead to a lot of dislike for a fighter because you just get sick of hearing about them. Alistair has received a lot of hype around here, so I get that there are a lot of people who want to see him fail. So of course they're going to look for things to fault him on. The Werdum bout was an odd, ugly fight that didn't live up to expectations..
However, on top of Werdum's tactics, Alistair came in with busted ribs and a broken toe. I think it would have been difficult for any fighter to look impressive under those circumstances, especially with Werdum's flopping. I've seen a lot of "Lol at Alistair's striking, he got outstruck by Werdum," or variations of that. First off in order to assume that Alistair can't strike, you have to completely disregard every fight he's had in the last 4 years, or even further back then that. After all, a very young Alistair outstruck a prime Chuck Liddel for almost of the first round of their fight in 2003.
Regardless, drop the whole "Werdum outstruck Overeem" stuff. It's just nonsense. You don't win a striking battle by falling to your back to avoid punches every time your opponent throws a strike. That is NOT outstriking someone.
How many times have we heard that a non-UFC heavy weight would dominate the UFC...only for them to flop terribly?
I like Overeem and want him to do well in the UFC...but I think he will be mid tier at best.

So which UFC heavyweight that is a top contender would he not fear the takedown from? Mir? Cain? Brock? Fuck even mccorcal or however you spell it, would rake him down

Rake = take...stupid iPhone
Sofa King Cool - Overeem will do about as good as CroCop did in the UFC. He will get smashed by the wrestlers in the UFC.
Also, please have him fight Pat Barry, Mitrione, or Browne in his first fight. Maybe Nog.
Cro Cop didn't get smashed by wrestlers in the UFC, in fact his 4 losses came in striking matches. Mir never put him on the ground once and isn't a wrestler anyway. JDS is well rounded but much more of a pure striker than anything.
Alistair appears to be heading into the UFC at the peak of his career. The same cannot be said of Cro Cop, particularly in regards to all his losses after the Gonzaga fight.
On top of that, who are all these wrestlers at the top of the UFC HW division that are going to dominate Alistair? After Cain Velasquez, who are we talking about? Brock maybe? I think Alistair would enter as a decent favorite over Brock all the same, but the UFC's HW division isn't loaded with wrestlers who theoretically are going to whup on Alistair. Even if it was, I think a lot of you are severely underestimating the grappling ability of a guy who has 19 submissions in his 35 wins.
Most of the UFC HWs are strikers first and foremost. Seriously, take a look at their roster. Even guys the few others that do have wrestling backgrounds like Shane Carwin don't seem to focus on it when they fight.
I like Alistair's chances against any striking based HW in all of mma.
I think that he'll be a great gatekeeper, but the big dogs put him to sleep
@ epwar
They hung that pic enlarged in his gym for motivation hehe. Funny shit.

This. The reem will get exposed in the Ufc without a doubt. This is mma not kickboxing

just sayin. I don't necessarily think that Werdum would have knocked him out, but he was tagging Reem up pretty nice, and had he not Nick Serra'd the majority of the fight, he could have won on his feet, decision or otherwise. Overeem looked like shit in that fight and gave no indication that he gets to the UFC and starts KOing people like the OP insinuates.
