Hey!
I am possibly going to ref an MMA 8-men tournament. I would appreciate any reffing tips.
Thanks,
Indrek

Do not let the crowd or the fighters corners dictate how you ref the match.
The clothesline is your friend.
You should have control of the situation. If you make a call, stick with the call. Don't be intimidated by the corners and the crowd. Better to look out for the safety of the fighters than anything else. If a fighter is getting his ass kicked and isn't defending himself properly, stop the fight. We want to see action but we also want healthy fighters at the end of the day. The only time you should let it go a little longer is when it's the finals or a championship fight. other than that, protect the fighter.

Thanks.
Any more?

stop the fight as soon as someone get punched
Don't let the fighters hang on to the cage.
I tell the fighters to keep fighting until I tell them to stop. If I say something to them during the fight they need to emplement what I say while they are fighting. eg. If I say "No heel hooks" the fighter needs let the heel hook go, and transition to something else.
If a fighter is being dominated, and he is not fighting back, but he is not being TKO'ed, I will tell the fighter to fight back or I will stop it. Usually three warnings over 30 seconds then I stop it. This way the fighter knows that if he does not fight back it will be stopped.
If you are a good ref, only half the people will hate you. Good Luck!
