Finding out who a phone number belongs to?

Long story short, I've gotten some weird text messages from a number I don't know. I want to find out who the number belongs to so I can know the validity of the messages. I've tried searching the number on Google and Facebook but I haven't had any luck.

If it's none of these, just block the number and move on with your life.

Yes, they seem to have information about certain people in my life and I can't figure out their end game. I'm thinking if I could know who was doing it i could figure out what they really want.
