Remember the days when everything was closed....

...on holidays?  I mean, literally, everything except the hospitals was closed.  Gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, fast food places, everything, closed the entire day.  If you didn't have gas in your car you were fucked.  If you ran out of milk you were fucked.  If you ran out of food you starved.

Nowadays gas stations, convenience stores, all open.  Even fast food places and grocery stores are open until any time between noon and 4.

And nowadays a lot of stores are closed in the morning but open at 5 or 6 for Black Friday...starting fucking Thursday!

WTF?

Yeah, I'm turning into an old curmudgeon.  Now get off my fucking lawn.

Yeah, it sucked.

kingofpancakes80 - Yeah, it sucked.

Haha

My home town is still like this. Everything is closed on holidays.

Also, everything except the gas station and the cafe is always closed on Sundays and Mondays.

I've always appreciated that about home. Phone Post 3.0

People act like there are things like The War on Christmas but we did this shit to ourselves

kingofpancakes80 - Yeah, it sucked.

No, it was awesome.  It actually felt like a holiday.  And there was no one driving around either.  Just people going and coming to/from their family gatherings.  But no traffic, just the odd car here and there, but the streets were for the most part deserted.  The kids, myself included, would all be outside riding their bikes or whatever.

Our good old fashioned family values are being stripped away layers at a time.

Nothing is sacred anymore.

Black Friday has become Black Thursday evening as retailers say fuck families trying to one up each other. In about 12 hours there will be pushing, shoving, and fistfights over deals on electronics and appliances.

Fuck Walmart and companies like it that have played their part in ruining one of my favorite holidays.

The country I grew up in is barely recognizable.

It was nice the way it was.

I remember.

Also, im a restaurant manager and I'm posting this from work.

When I was a kid, stores were not allowed to be open on Sundays and stat. holidays.
Then the bigger corps didn't wanna be told what to do. So they lobbied to get the laws changed. In order for them to get people to work those days, they had to have employees that needed the money bad enough. Part time positions slowly became the norm. I had my own store in a mall for a while that HAD to be open if the mall was open. 7 days a week. Only exception was x-mas day and new years day. I asked employees to volunteer to work, but if they didn't want to, they didn't have to. I would cover those days myself. Phone Post 3.0

What is happening in life is the 10%.

How you react to it is the 90%.

I feel your pain, I worked as a server for a lot of my youth, most patrons on holidays were not a happy bunch either, which made it even worse. Now whenever I eat out I tip extremely well for exceptional service.

Dallah dollah bills yall

Yup my wife works retail and they are open all day like a normal business day and it's regular pay not time and a half. Fucking crazy. Phone Post 3.0
