All this talk about Georges being some lay and prayer tonight...He was CONSTANTLY posturing to drop punches and nick would either roll for a sub or try to control an arm, go rewatch the first round again Georges created plenty of space and kept on posturing up in Nick's guard to land huge shots (a la BJ). Georges was trying to create distance to throw punches from inside Nick's guard all night, and when he wasn't doing that he was passing Nick's guard or avoiding subs. GSP kept on trying to put himself in position to GNP and Nick was mobile, aggressive and did an excellent job of tying up GSPS arms when he could.
Furthermore, Georges pushed the fight standing and boxed for a good period of time. Nick didn't push Georges at all standing except for a couple good exchanges at the end of the third.
Georges repeatedly put himself in position to drop BOMBS, Nick was very good defensively off his back. The Hardy fight, and maybe even the Alves fight were snuggle fests...for this one Nick Diaz was just good. Georges may have had a lack of results, but there was no lack of effort. That doesn't make Georges bad, it makes Nick competent.
Vote downs are coming. Nobody will show their faces but they will be coming!
At the start of the 5th round, 11/20 minutes of fight time (rds 1,2,3,4) was standing time.... Gsp gave Diaz PLENTY of opportunity to stand and bang.

Sadly you're more than likely right.
I have mad respect, so my answer is yes.

Voted up OP! I could not agree more. There were some lack of results in some respects, for sure. I am a huge GSP fan, and I wanted to see a complete and total domination, and to a degree we saw that -- but we did not see the same level of damage that has occured in some of GSP's previous fights. I think that it is more than evident that this was by no lack of effort by GSP...the guy was exhausted, he put everything he had into this fight. The guys he are fighting are just that damn good -- not everybody can go matrix on every opponent and finish them -- hell, even Anderson Silva has off nights.
GSP is trying to finish guys, he is giving his all in these fights. But these are tough guys he is fighting, and he is ruly one of the toughest divisions in the sport. He is doing his best, but it is not always enough to finish guys. These other fighters are closing the gap, and GSP is doing what he can to remain what has been consistently one of the most dominant champions in MMA history. He hasn't finished a fight in years...but he also hasn't lost one in years. Not everybody can be Anderson Silva -- but not everybody can be Georges St. Pierre, either.

It's a shame, because what I'm effectively saying is Nick Diaz has a great defensive (as well as offensive) guard. Why is it easier to hate on Georges than to give credit to Nick?
Diaz got beat down. How is that no accepted?
It was a technical wrestlefuck. I was impressed Nick didn't suffer more damage, which of course is a credit to him.
CapnKindBud -Diaz lost on points. Period. When was the last time George finished anyone ?
Better yet, when was the last time George TRIED to finish? When did he have a submission on, even one that was broke?
When was the last time he just stood in the pocket firing until he broke his opponent?
He is a great wrestler but he NEVER tries to finish and that sucks ....
Diaz did lose on points, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The point of my post was that Georges WAS trying to finish. You don't have to go silva stann to finish someone. GSP spent a good amount of the time on the ground posturing up in Nick's guard to throw heavy GNP (which I feel most fair minded people will call going for a finish). When he did, Nick rolled for a sub, or a sweep or controlled Georges arms. Georges tried to inflict serious GNP damage, it was defended. Logically though, that doesn't change Georges intentions...only his results and that's to the credit of Nick.

Who has fought a top 3 opponent for pretty much every fight? No one has. Not sylva, not anyone. Look at the records of the guys gsp has fought up to their fight and compare it to the records of any other champs opponents and you will understand why he hasn't finished that many fights. Fucking guy has faced the best fighters out there. He is not fighting chris fucking bonnar.

Jon Bones Jones has fought five former champions in a row and finished four of them! That's what a REAL GOAT contender does! I didn't see GSP try to pass his guard at all. He's a safety first fighter and you can't finish like that!
Diaz? I'm no Diaz fan. He looked like shit tonight. He barely tried a sub all night.
Look, GSP is great but he just doesn't try for the finish. He stands in the pocket for as long as it is safe then he dives for a takedown. A fighter who finishes, stays in the pocket and when it gets unsafe, that's when they finish.
Serra ruined GSP! How many finishes since Serra?
You've obviously never grappled in your life if you couldn't see Gsp trying to finish.
Wait a minute, what do you mean "you people"?!

I've grappled enough to know that George took no RISKS in any sun attemp. No I didn't see him pass the guard and get mount even once. As far as that goes, Diaz was about as bad on his back. He barely tried to do much, he tried a little rubber guard for about a second and I saw no triangle attempt or armbar attempts. At least when going for it, you may catch him when he is defending .
But nope George didn't try to finish. He tried to grind it out. And he did . He stood with him for a little while but as soon as it got a tiny bit unsafe he went for the takedown.
George is a great athlete and is strong enough to win without risking anything.
His face was way more fucked up in the last two fights than his opponents.
He is champ but he isn't finishing or beating anyone up.
If you can't see that then you never will.
He's boring .
I guess I never will..:: because you she are high as a mutha fucka
You sir*
Damn auto correct

great post.
All I'm going to say is that GSP needs a finish and I think he's more than capable and has plenty of chances to do so.
He's playing if safe and I don't want up downplay that by any means, to beat the guys he has, as convincingly as he has is a great achievement. But I can't say that he wouldn't have been able to finish them all had he taken the risk.
13 mins standing
12 mins on the ground
Why couldn't nick even hurt him??
Gsp is a complete mixed martial artist who dominates his opponents, end of story.
nick had him hurt in the third.
