I think Matt Hughes looked great....he was lean and worked his hands well to get in for the clinch and takedown. his ground and pound was great and his grappling was great gaining the back of a very good Matt Serra...
I wish he would make one one run....I think he should fight Fitch then go from there..watching him tonite makes me think he could win that fight...
Hughes is definitely still capable of beating on some top WWs. I think he got burnt out for a while there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make another run or at least wreck some others' title chances.
the judges, myself, and fightmetric have hughes winning that 1
many serra fans disagree
Well I still have him top 10, but fitch is a stretch. Fitch via KO. WAYYYY better hands
The judges, rainer wolfcastle and fightmetric are wrong.
I don't think he can beat Fitch.
I love the throw Serra hit him with.
Hughes basically got his head scrambled early on with that first exchange (butt or punch or whatever). It was less a fight than a recovery.
his striking wasn't that impressive in that fight imo
I'd rather have a root canal with no anesthesia than watch either of them fight, let alone watch them fight each other.
i thought hughes won but can see how you would give it to serra.
here's my question though...why does he continue to fight southpaw? i understand its b/c he is trying to help his shot (which i assume has lost a little explosiveness with age) but he was much more dangerous standing when he fought conventional. that left cross has nothing on it. i almost think he'd have a better shot at takedowns if he went back to conventional b/c at least then the opponent would have something to think about
Serra won
Hughes may have deserved the win, but he was not impressive at all in that fight. Credit to Serra for that though.
fabes - Hughes may have deserved the win, but he was not impressive at all in that fight. Credit to Serra for that though.
THIS!Either Serra is much better than everyone think he is, or Hughes is little bit shot?
everyone keeps saying that hughes wasnt that impressive....and while this is somewhat true lets not forget that in the first round he was dropped with a head butt
im no pro fighter or doctor but i would think that gettin dropped with an illegal blow would change how you were fighting
but what the hell do i know
That would be a very different fight had he not taken that big headbutt in the beginning. I thought Hughes edged it out but it was really close. I'd actually like to see it again since neither guy is doing anything in the new WW division.
Yeah, Hughes definitely won. It was close but the main round in question is round 1. Yeah, Hughes went down but it was from a headbutt. He dominated otherwise. Had that been a knockdown from a clean shot I could see giving Serra that round. Since it was an accidental illegal blow Hughes takes the round.
Serra should have gotten the nod. Hughes did not look good and would get owned by all the guys he's been ducking. War Renzo!
Hughes Definitely won that fight !!! If Hughes had been knocked out in the first it would have been ruled a NC. He gained back and punished serra in the 2nd round with great great g and p....c mon guys man...maybe the 3rd was close but not really...Serra was game and had a nice run in the last 20 seconds and it was a good fight...but HUGHES won !!!!
And Serra trained hard for that fight..he is alot better than you guys give him credit for...
if theyd given it to serra it'd have been due to the headbutt/near ko
Totally disagree3 Bro, he is slower than ever and his shots are bad cause of his speed, he is barely top ten, and that fight was almost a year ago, he is now even slower, wayyyy past his prime...
btw that decision could have very easily gone to Serra
