Ring of Combat Nov 17th 2006 Tournament of Champions.
Ok, Just wondering what everyone else thinks?
My fight with Estrada was ended in a NC due to and illegal up kick!
It was a brief fight maybe 3 mins tops!
I came out threw a lazy jab and a slow inside kick in which Estrada tried to gain a take down and wound up trying to body lock me. I countered and body lock and ended with a big throw! I continued to blanket him while trying to jump guard. Estrada landed some small rabbit punches. He attempted to secure my arm and wound up, up kicking my head while I was on the ground. The fight was stopped. The ref and my corner asked me what happened and I responded "he kicked me in the dam head" (you can hear it on the tape I have clear as day) The Doctor stops the fight!....I asked to continue and new where I was at the whole time, but the Doctor didn't allow us to continue? My question is should he have been DQ'ed? I'm not trying to get a shitty win out of this but it's a tournament, and well I was winning the fight and didn't commit the foul? Shouldn't I be allowed to advance in the tournament?
No DQ is necessary. It was said to be accidental (similar to GSP vs. Hughes) and the first up kick. Had it been the second or third after being warned the first time, then, yes, a DQ, and you would advance if the rules state such for a DQ win. It is unknown who, if either, will advance.
You may want to e-mail kirik@mma.tv for a pro name.
the 'no contest' was correct. the illegal technique was definitely unintentional. the big question mark here, though, is the tournament advancement issue.
English,
As I saw it from my seat it looked like Estrsada was trying to bring his leg up and go for a triangle. As he brought his leg threw he connected with the side of your head. Not even on the replay that they should right after did it look intentional. It didnt even look like a hard kick.
Mr English,
Let me first say that I have seen some rather flexible individuals in my time of dealing with mma but I have NEVER seen anyone UPKICK while being "blanketed." ...........
Either Estrada is VERY flexible or he has very short legs.
"He attempted to secure my arm and wound up, up kicking my head while I was on the ground. The fight was stopped."
Look dude, you know as well as I do that the attempt to secure your arm was to place a triangle on. In fact, that was in the process of being slipped on until it was stopped by your comment. The kick was so subtle, that the ref didn't even stop because he didn't see it as a kick. You had to bring it to his attention.
I think that this is the wrong approach to trying to get someone to choose you for advancement. Mr. Neglia is the guy who will make the decision.
I was kicked in the temple, I wasnt sure it was on purpose Estrada said he was sorry and it was an accident, I wasnt trying to say he did or didnt. I didnt want the win that way either, I was told at first take your time recover and was going to restart, they wouldnt allow me too? I was very upset, with them not allowing me to continue. I'm not tryng to get a cheap win either. The fact is the Doc wouldnt allow the fight to continue, and I dont think I should be penalized and not be able to continue, I didnt mistakenly throw an up kick! I was winning the brief fight.
I just wondering what people thought about how the advancement should work?
I don't understand how you continue to say you were winning the fight. You got a takedown! Hopefully this will be cleared up in a day or two. I'm not going to post on this anymore until things are cleared up.
I agree with fatty, by the way Kevin are you trying to set a record for starting the most forums about yourself?
"I was kicked in the temple" so you cant handle a soft accidental kick, but we're supposed to belive that you'd be able to hand a hard punch there? It's beiging to sound like you were trying to get the fight to go your way, it didnt so now your on here pleading your side.
This gives the imlication that you have either seen or own your self. "you can hear it on the tape" This was taken from your first post. So who has it? The proof is in the pudding.
When you admit that you have the fight on tape in your first post and then deny having it in your last post is something that I might have to do in the future when the shit doesnt go my way.
I love not letting the truth get in the way of a good story.
