Er no, he saved Chile from socialist democracy, not a Bolshevik dictatorship. He tortured and killed tens of thousands.
Great man indeed.
My professor made us read a book written by Allende's niece, Isabel(?), but can't remember the name. Anyway, Prof. seemed to talk highly about the author and gave a brief history of her uncle's presidency.
Must admit I know nothing about Chile's history. Pulling one out of my ass, did the CIA have anything to do with the coup?
Tell Lucifer hello for us.
Freakin evil SOB dictator.
my message is gone......
dont think so.
I am not a supporter of Allende and the article did lay out some interesting facts.
But then the author starts nattering on about Waco and Clinton (a terrible anology) and how Pinochet liked to play with his grandkids.... love his wife...was 'devout'
The article basically decends into drivel. The crimes against humanity charges against Pinochet are glossed over and never even denied.
It was a puff piece.
I like political articles to be objective in their prespecive.
This one wasn't.
'Can you show me a political article (aside from straight-up news or reference-styled) that you find interesting that is "objective" in its perspective that you find interesting? Thanks.' Yes good point. But you have to admit that the author is fawning over subject when he starts talking about his love for his grandkids etc.... The article does give excellent insight into the recent political history of Chile but I'd like to also read an article as blantantly pro Pinochet for a more balances viewpoint. (btw, are you the same matthew that I used to argue with at times on the OG many, many years ago?) lol maybe
edit doesn't work
but I'd also like to read an article that isn't as blantantly pro pinochet for more balanced view point
is what it should have said
'Look at what the mainstream media, who pretend to be objective'
Yes the mainstream media sucks too.
It's hard to get to the bottom of anything anymore.
(btw, are you the same matthew that I used to argue with at times on the OG many, many years ago?) lol maybe
Are you from Canada?
lol I remember you now.
you are one of the orginal freedom zealots..... I think ......
"you are one of the orginal freedom zealots..... I think ......"
Not "one of the," rather "THE". :-) I was the Founding FZ. The original class included Striker, ov1, RunAmok, Oxnard Doc, Dock, and maybe four or five others.
My G-d, I was barely 20 years old when all of that started.
We ended up splitting primarily over foreign policy.
That's mostly it. That, and a bunch of private conversations I've had with him.
