RIZIN has signs of becoming a flash in the pan

rbl - Japanese MMA has always been weird, it's probably aimed at a domestic audience with their own interests. Phone Post 3.0
You ever watch their porn? Wired is putting it very mildly. Phone Post 3.0

I submit cats - You make shitty points.

The fighters he has got so far aren't impressive?

Kazushi Sakuraba vs Shinya Aoki
Rena Kubota vs Jleana Valentino
Yuki Motoya vs Nam Jin Jo
Daiki Hata vs Hiroyuki Takaya
Yuichiro Nagashima vs Andy Souwer
Gabi Garcia vs Lei'D Tapa

Other announced fighters,

Fedor Emelianenko
Kaido Hoovelson
Tsuyoshi Kosaka
Bruno Cappelozza*
Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal*

Rampage is also another possibility with his current contract situation, which would likely end up in the 8-man two day tournament. I also wouldn't rule out some last second match ups. But when was the last time that Japanese MMA had a card like this?

It will air on Spike as well as overseas and they will make it a huge, huge event.
No ...This is not impressive Phone Post 3.0

This will be a one and done disaster. Japan's MMA fad died a long time ago. This is a nostalgia show, like those pathetic pro wrestling fan fests.

It's actually kind of depressing.

Give them credit for trying.

At least they are generating interest with an eye on a combination of entertaining the Japanese public, satisfying soeme fight fans and Wrestling fans interest and putting forth the possibility of a TV deal and leading to another event or events MAYBE

I think this thread means we've reached peak Zuffa shill. Phone Post 3.0

Well yeah, it's a JMMA promotion trying to be big league from the jump in 2015.

Of course it looks like a flash in the pan.

don't care if it is just a flash in the pan.

I will watch and enjoy every event they put on.

Some great fights in there :/ Phone Post 3.0
Not every fight in Pride featured Cro Cop, Big Nog and Wanderlei by the way.

"Pride Never Die!" Everybody on this board sucks the nuts of pride and now that it's back you expect the first show they have to be back to the level of the 2005 GP? Give it some time, let it develop and let's see what happens. Phone Post 3.0
This isn't even close to Pride, and no one trying to make an argument for Pride's greatness would have included people like Zuluzinho on it.

Does this really need to be explained? There are about three highly relevant fighters on that list (Fedor, Aoki, King Mo), a few okay prospects (and I'm one of the few people on this board whose heard of Rena Kubota), some journeymen, some way past their prime veterans including the corpse of Sakuraba, and some utter scrubs. Dream and Sengoku usually gave us far stronger line-ups, let alone Pride, and this is supposed to be a flagship double-event.

Maybe Rizin can still scrape something together, but right now the OP is right, this looks like a novelty flash in the pan more than an ongoing promotion, and in listing the actual fighters so far you actually helped his argument. Phone Post 3.0

Japanese are fad based and hopefully Saki can get mma back in the mix over there!

a good exciting NYE show can do just that!

so has TK been confirmed as Fedors opponent ?

I love how Japan can bring mma athletes, pro wrestlers, kickboxers, boxers, olympic judokas and wrestlers together and let them fight each other in MMA to celebrate the new year.

More spectacle than sport but it can be fun as hell.

Fedor is coming back for one. That alone will wreck ratings. IDC who you are, if you are a true fight fan, this man warrants recognition. Saku kinda breaks my heart, but I also watch Shammy fight and will watch Royce 3. Nostalgic and fun. I wish them all the best. Shinya? I can dig it. As far as the other fights/fighters we will have to watch and see. Every combatant needs to earn their name at a time. There have been many fights I have slept on and kicked myself later for. I hope it's not a one and done deal. I can see idea of using fighters who were there from the beginning, near their ends to help revitalize and give birth to a renewed era on NYE. I miss tournaments. Takes a lot of balls. I am definitely in!

Takada beating drums in his underwear gives me more goosebumps and anticipation for the event than anything else i have seen in a longtime

Hope it works out well for them

Definitely watching hungover with some takeaway and few spliffs like the old days

Is Andy Souwer going to compete in mna now? Phone Post 3.0

Yeah a murderers row... Phone Post 3.0

lol

Oh look...it's a couple of shills at the UG. Where's Cindy by the way?

For the rest of the people who visit this place, let's compare this card with the previous and the next ufc card.

Rizing card features:

- The greatest fighter of all time. Sure he's 39 now and he has been in hiatus for 3 years, but the greatest is the greatest.
- Mohammed Lawal who is 4-1 in his last five fights, and the only defeat was a controversial loss to Rampage, a guy the UFC went as far as playing with fire in terms of legislation to get on their roster. Lawal also has a win against ufc veteran Kongo and a win over Moussassi who is a highly ranked ufc fighter. He's in his prime.
- Sakuraba and Kosaka are legends, albeit ones that have aged and haven't been in the game in a while. Despite that, everyone who has been watching mma for quite some time will be interested to see their fights.

UFC Fight Night 76:

- Two forty+ guys headlining the event. Admittedly they have both been legends of the sport, but their performance during the last years depended heavily on TRT use. Once the juice stopped flowing they have both been underwhelming.
- As for the rest of the fights... well talk about a murderer's row :/

UFC 193:
- The two headlining fights are wmma.
- Mark Hunt and is a legend and an interesting fighter to watch. Silva off the juice is not that great, on the juice he's a force to be reckoned with due to size and speed. The rematch though is kind of silly.
- The rest are members of the murderer's row

My pick: RIZIN

Told you so.

But the Fuji TV deal really surprised me. I suspect that the Fuji guys responsible for the decision were given special gifts that they had never even dreamed of.

Sex sells.

You forgot retired American baseball players (Jose Cansaco).

don't care.

as long as they are around, I'm going to watch.
