Robert Drysdale makes his MMA debut in 2 weeks

Grappling phenom Robert Drysdale looks to make his transition in to the world of mixed martial arts on October 17th facing undefeated MMA fighter Josh Musick.

People have been waiting for Drysdale to step in to the ring for some time now and that time is finally here.

I had the pleasure of training with Robert and Frank Mir when I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago. Robert is amazing on the mats and Franks told me he has good standup. Robert loves to box and trains it all the time. I suspect he will work toward his strength initially and try to take the fight to the ground. However, anyone who thinks his only strength is on the mats is going to be in for a rude awakening. On the mats, Robert is unbelievable.

TTT!

If you can come out you should! We are growing and have a great group of fighters competing. These really are the future stars of mixed martial arts. A lot of these guys come out and look like pro's already. I can't even imagine how good they will be a year from now.

I'm betting the farm on Drysdale.

 Do you have event details?

I hear this all the time... but unless a fighter has competitive experience in a striking art, their credibility as a striker is severely compromised. It takes a number of actual fight scenarios to develop the nuances and finesse required in striking--something that hard sparring alone can't teach.

It remains to be seen if Drysdale has the "sugar" to strike, or will effectively become nothing more than a functional striker (like Hughes), using it to set up his ground work. Not that it would really matter, anyway. Definitely looking forward to his fight. I'm interested to see how calmly he'll be able to take a punch (if he even gets hit at all, which is debatable).

How many grappling phenoms have entered MMA and looked like a fish out of water? A lot of the techniques on the grappling circuit (no-gi included) just simply aren't making a difference when strikes and high level wrestlers are involved. Very few of them outright fail, but not many have made a serious impact either.
