The District Attorney continued, “Earlier this year, New York State enacted the nation’s toughest gun restrictions – the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 (NY SAFE ACT). One provision of that law is that the penalty for possessing an unloaded firearm is raised from being a Class A misdemeanor to being a Class E felony. It is therefore more important than ever that if a passenger chooses to travel with a weapon, they should first acquaint themselves with the weapon laws of the jurisdiction that they are visiting and comply with any and all legal requirements. Otherwise, they may find themselves being arrested and charged with a felony – as is what occurred in this case.”"

People have to realize, if you have a license to carry in another state, that does NOT give you the right to carry in NYS and especially not NYC!! Believe it or not this happens quite often at NYC airports because clueless people think that because they have a pistol permit from another state it is then valid in NYS! ....this DA is not grandstanding, and the cops have no discretion!

Any time I have ever been in a conflict with someone that got violent, using my hands was enough. I won some and I lost some, but at 43 years old I have never been in a position where I needed, or felt I needed a gun. I am not anti gun, and I am not pro gun, but it still seems retarded to me that Guererro feels he needs to have one in his possession.
My being Canadian is definitely relevant because we have a completely different outlook on this issue up here. I don't know one single person that carries a gun around for protection, and I don't beleve I ever have. I am deep in prime hunting territory so there are a lot of people around me who own rifles, but I never see them.
I grew up in Toronto and spent several years on the edge of Regent Park, Canada's worst community, and it never even occurred to my that I might want to carry a gun. Maybe I am reckless, I don't know, but I'm still here and relatively unscathed.
