More than a little down on Robson Moura, since he just completely BAILED on his commitment to come be the instructor at Urijah's place in Sacramento. One day before he's supposed to start, just up and changes his mind. Weak.
shadallion,
Sorry to hear that. I don't know all of the details but a friend asked me to post the seminar info here for him.
I did hear that he was still talking about coming to S. Florida when people were posting that he had decided to go to California, but I didn't know much about that since I didn't talk to him directly. I just figured the actual deal wasn't decided.

Typical brazilian BS. they'll shake your hand and tell you that you have their word on something, and then...
no honor.

I know Robson personally and I can tell you he is a very honorable man. I'm sorry for the negative experience but I think the annoucement at Urijah's was premature and he was considering a few other options as well. Ultimately, he made what he thought was the best decision for him and his career so who could blame him for that?
big fatso -
That comment is a little harsh. I dont think anyone can lump all Brazilians into any catagory. There are good/bad/honorable/dishonorable people in every culture.
Anyways, I usually dont post much on here but I felt like I had to because I had a little insight. I hope you guys get a chance to train with and be around Robson for a while. If you do, I know you'll change your mind :)
Hard to judge a person or circumstances if you don't know all the details. What I do know is, I would definitely go to this seminar if I was in the area! Robson is a machine.
I have to second what Blome2323 said, though again I know none of the details about what was discussed at Urijah's. Robson has visited our gym several times and we know him pretty well.
When I saw the post about him moving to California I spoke to the owner of our gym and that same week Robson told him he hadn't decided yet what he was doing. But again I don't know the details so I wouldn't presume anything on either side.
I will say that Jeff is right, if you have a chance to train with him do so.
As far as the "typical Brazilian BS," I have been around Martial Arts for a lot of years and I have seen no difference in Brazilians vs. any American's I have trained with.
Marcelo is the most professional martial artist I have ever been around. What I mean by that is he is organizied and he is adamant about starting classes on time. This includes seminars, and that is something I haven't seen in almost 30 years of training...mainly with Americans.
I was personally at Urijah's several weeks ago, and after a week of training with the school. probably on an expenses-paid trip, Robson stood up right next to Urijah Faber. Urijah announced to the entire class of 30 or so guys that Robson had officially accepted, and that he would be moving out and running the class. Robson stood right there, shook everyone's hand, gave a little speech about how excited he was, and it was a DONE DEAL.
Then one day before he's supposed to move out and start trainng us, backed out on it and left the whole school high and dry. Then he calls Urijah (who has been very open with his guys about this whole thing) that he wants Ultimate Fitness to be one of his affiliates instead, headed by one of his guys from Brazil that no one knows. Then Robson would come out once a month to make sure everything's cool. That's called a bait and switch, where I come from.
Maybe he's a good guy, but as far as business practices, he's playing around and f*cking things up for us in Sacramento. And after reading that nhbgear thread about how he stiffed another school to whom he had made a commitment, one is forced to wonder about his character.
Don't stand up and announce you're going to do something, and then welch on it. That's how reputations are lost.
Shadillion,
That's why I say I didn't know the details, I wasn't there. That sucks for you guys if that is what happened and I have no reason to doubt you.
I have personally had no business dealings with him, only training and that was good.
ttt Marcelo is good peeps. I met Robson last week.
Naples BJJ should have some people there as well for a full house.
Wow, that seems shady.
