Rodney Wallace bursts onto the scene

Rodney Wallace just beat Gregory Milliard, Aaron Stark, and Antwain Britt in an 8-man tournament on Saturday. Carmelo Marrero was also in the tournament, having lost to Britt in the first round.

Wallace is a originally a wrestler from North Carolina, and has only been in MMA for a year and a half but has still managed to rack up an impressive 9-0 record, which now includes some good names thanks to this tournament. BJJ is his supposed weakness but he still managed to submit Britt in the tournament final. Shouldn't be long now until the UFC comes calling.

EDIT: Someone beat me to the video.

i can't see the video. what event was this?

BJJ won't be a problem for Rodney, particularly at 205 where you only have to avoid a couple of landmines (Xande Ribeiro, Robert Drysdale).  He's been competing in No gi for awhile, and just drew a VERY good BJJ player in Gilbert Durinho at Naga in July.  If Rodney will have trouble with anything its strikers who can maintain distance from him.  Guys like Cane or Vera.  He's pretty short and his game relies on getting inside on guys.  I've been watching him for awhile, he's going places.

I'm not convinced the UFC will be calling just yet, the only obstacle is his style.  He can sub guys, but he's the kind of grappler who can just control you for 15 minutes if he wants.  He may be a very good fit for Strikeforce Challengers or Bellator if they do a LHW tournament, because his style is built for the tournament format.

Rodney is a very talented kid. Nice guy too.

siouxNYC - i can't see the video. what event was this?

The video was of a fight he had last year at "Revolution Fight Club" in Miami. The tournament was held by "Vengeance FC" but I'm not sure where.  Derrick Noble beat Shonie Carter in the main event.

Vengeance FC was in Aruba.  I don't have vids yet.

Vengeance FC Tournament Still On?

TTT for Rodney Wallace.

Rodney's a beast! I've been watching him since he beat Valtonen. He's beaten oppositione with good records with MUCH more experience than he has.  Way to represent NC Rodney!

UNO MAS TTT

Rodney just signed a 4 fight deal with the UFC! He's rumored to be fighting Stann at The TUF finale.

So then he'll be campaigning at 205? DJO makes a good point, at 5'9" he's a tiny LHW.

Rodney is a stud and while he is short for a lhw, his weakness is also a strength. It throws a lot of people off because he's underneath a lot of people to begin with - which is perfect for a takedown.

He's a stud that's for sure. He'll surprise a lot of people.
