This is the main reason I am not understanding the hate for Rory. He does the exact same thing as Nick Diaz when he fights. He walks guys down, uses his superior striking techniques and cardio to work guys over. Hell, they basically beat BJ Penn up in the exact same way. But for some reason everyone doesn't think he's exciting.
I think both guys are awesome fighters, who I enjoy watching because their technique and skill is fun to watch. Hell, they even use a lot of the same body to head combos, and chaining 4 or 5 punches to a head kick.

he's a great fighter but his personality is pretty severely lacking did you watch the post fight press conference.

Nick has finished one top 10 fighter in the last 5 years. Lets not get carried away. Rory ran through his lower end fighters just like Nick did. Welterweight is the toughest division to finish guys in the top 10.

I like him though.
I understand that his personality is off putting. But I am mainly talking about why people find two very similar forms of fighting to be completely different, mainly based on the personality of said fighters. If Rory started running around yelling "Kelowna, 604 what!?" and dressed differently people would probably be all over his nuts.
Diaz finishes more. Better boxing. Rory is more well rounded "sport" fighter. Guys like that are super hard to beat. U gotta do what Lawler did and throw the kitchen sink at em and push him back while staying prepared for the shot. Guys that are so well rounded and win rounds instead of finishing people are really hard to beat.

eh, i disagree...
Nick relies almost exclusively on a "pitter-patter" style of boxing. he pretty much never moves in any other direction than forward. also, he doesn't assume a position for "points."
i will agree that they managed to beat BJ in a similar manner, as both guys had a significant reach advantage over him and beat him with their volume. however, Rory used a ton of kicks. and, BJ uses boxing and his BJJ to win... but he doesn't have very good reach, and is best when he swarms his opponents. both of those guys were bigger and controlled the distance which didn't allow him to dominate them.
Rory uses a really diverse style of punching and kicking that allows his to throw high volume and also makes it hard to get tied up or taken down. Rory is very conscience of scoring points, and is less likely to get pulled into a bad position like Nick, because he has less desire to get the actual finish.
Rory struggles with guys that walk through his punches (Robbie Lawler), whereas Nick struggles with leg kicks (Condit) or wrestlers (GSP).
both Rory and Nick have very aggressive BJJ off their backs, which i assume is partially successful because they're pretty lanky guys for the division.
Nick also seems impossible to finish, whereas we have seen Rory break several times....
Oh Nick and Rory. Both have one thing in common: beating a guy (who's about to fight at featherweight...) who possess a resume that they'll never come close to.
Every time they look good it makes BJ seem more amazing, IMO.

No doubt that BJ is an insane warrior, and definitely one of the P4P greats. Willing to fight anyone at any weight that he can make. But I wouldn't say that we know what kind of resume Rory is going to build. He's still just a kid, he could easily become a multiple title holder at some point in his career.
But BJ I think was the first truly gifted athlete this sport ever got. If he had the work ethic of GSP, he'd probably be on his 10th or 12th consecutive LW title defense.

True however the Diaz fan base is too stupid to realize this.
They have nearly the exact same fighting style.
This...they are literally fuckin retarded. To call Diaz a finisher because he finishes guys like Thomas Denny, Mike Aina (he arguably lost) Corbbrey, Inoue, other LW's and FW's, and over the hill fighters or lower level guys like Cyborg, Shamrock, Scott Smith, etc.. is comical.
Lets look at the "top" guys Nick's fought or UFC opponents in the last decade or so. GSP, Condit, BJ, KJ Noons X2, Sherk, Riggs, Diego, Karo. That's 9 fights with ZERO finishes, and 5 of them are against LW's and FW's. Nick probably has a 5% chance of finishing a top 15 WW.
fenatic - Rory is a great fighter but has the personality of a rock. Nick Diaz has the style that would beat up Rory all night long. Diaz has way better striking, better Jits and his take down defense has gotten way better, Penn couldn't takie him down but once and got beat up for it and Penn took everyone down including Matt Hughes. Nick Diaz will beat Rory McDonald 10 out of 10 times.
Rory is kinda like Diaz but has actually top 10 and top 5 wins in the UFC, can strike with every limb, can wrestle and grapple with the best of them. Put Rory in against KJ Noons and I can guarantee he definitely won't be getting his face cut up or going 25 minutes... Lol.
Diaz comes to break guys, to take their souls. Rory will stand there, jab, straight, uppercut, front kick, roundhouse and dance a little. All spaced out, never a huge flurry to try to finish. If Nick Diaz had Tyron Woodley on the fence like that for nearly the entire fight, Woodley would not have made it to a decision.
