Today Ben Rothwell appeared on the MMA Hour and wasn't shy about ripping on some of the UFC's biggest stars, Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort:

Ben Rothwell has made his fair share of mistakes, but he also hasn't been afraid to face them head-on. So when he sees a fighter like Vitor Belfort refuse to answer or even acknowledge questions regarding an increasingly muddled history with performance enhancing drugs, as Belfort chose to do on Monday, then Rothwell can't help but get a little upset.
"The difference is I want to address it, because I face my problems," Rothwell said Monday on The MMA Hour. "That's it. I face my problems. I take them on. I take responsibility. And man, Vitor was awesome when I met him in July, how nice he was to me and all this stuff. It just really sucks to hear that. Come on, man. Be the warrior. Be the man and face this. It happened. There's nothing you can do about it. This is your responsibility. You went through this. This is yours. F--king own it. Just deal with it."
"People will criticize me, but you can look at my reports and see that, dude, I had a case. I could've fought it," Rothwell said. "The commission, the Wisconsin commission gave me a warning because they were like, ‘Ben did not have an advantage. We have eight weeks of testing. Yes, he was high the night of the fight. He was low the week of and all these eight weeks before.' And you know what? I could've fought the whole thing. The UFC was the one that gave me a suspension. And you know what I said? I said it's my fault. It's 100-percent my fault. Even though a doctor was prescribing it and overlooking everything, it's not the doctor's fault. It was my choice. And that's it. That's the difference between me and Anderson Silva."
I don't need articles to stay relevant. I need opponents to actually show up and fight me. I was doing a live interview and this was 3 min of a 20 min conversation. Ariel was a bit bent about Vitor not wanting to talk about it, and then canceling the day of. So we talked about it. I'm just saying how I felt regardless of all the nut-huggers that are going to talk shit because they and Anderson refuse to take responsibility. And I mean the people that are defending him, just reading there comments, they are the same people that will drive drunk, kill someone, and it's not there fault. "As an example" A lot of people have a serious problem ever admitting wrong doing or taking responsibility. And it's sad. It's one of the major problems on the planet. I also think it's hilarious people make dumbfuck comments and hadn't even read the article. I'm speaking outside the UG here too.
Ben Rothwell - I don't need articles to stay relevant. I need opponents to actually show up and fight me. I was doing a live interview and this was 3 min of a 20 min conversation. You're 100% right that the excuses need to stop. The whole Anderson debacle just made everything look worse and became comical. People find it a lot easier to forgive and forget when someone owns up and says "yeah, I did it. I screwed up" than expecting people to be stupid enough to believe some of these excuses.
Why are only Vitor and Anderson crucified for using peds? Yes they can just come clean and admit to their mistakes but it's not like they are the only ones. What about guys like Henderson,Barnett,Overeem and Sonnen?
Id say because vitor had a huge career resergence due to what many believed was ped abuse coupled with being approved for TRT despite his history of ped use. And Anderson obviously because of his legend status got a lot of attention and bought his career of dominance into question. Then the run of excuses got a bit silly. It's not like they are worse than other people who have failed, just that they are easier examples to point at. Overeem gets his share of criticism but has only failed one test and it looks pretty clear that he stopped using after mainly due to his decline in physique and performance.
Sonnen has come clean and admitted using everything under the sun. He's even joked about silva having contact high after fighting him. Henderson has never had one questionable test result or spike in performance or physique. So to put him in the same boat as the others doesn't really make sense just because he was on approved TRT
People respect a fuck up more if you own it, in general. Obviously you can't fuck a kid then own it and expect people to be ok but things like steroids, people can forgive.
superCalo - Only vitor is guilty, all other pEd users did not win as often & as spectacularly, so they are 100% innocent.
This.
I believe this has been owned for years. This topic is tired, and Rothwell should maybe think about that.
Vitor and Anderson are high profile. They enjoy the money that comes with that but they lack the integrity to be authentic when they get caught cheating so I'm also not impressed. It's pathetic.
