Round 1 could be scored a 10-7?

Rogan said in his interview of Gray Maynard that round 1 could be 10-8 or even 10-7. Somebody, anybody, please explain the 10-7 for me. Never heard of it without a point deduction for a foul.

 10-8.

it should be 10-8, but i feel like they're more rare than they should be, you really gotta work someone... what are some other recent 10-8 rounds? anyone?

I thought Rogan stated recently that 10-10 rounds CAN be called, which would be weird as they always spout on about the 10-9 must system, I might be wrong tho. Phone Post

I believe the unified rules state that a round is 10-7 is one fighter shows total dominance. What more could Gray have done other than finish the fight?

I agree it was a 10-8.

But fucking 10-7's, how do they work?

(b) The 10-Point Must System will be the standard system of scoring a bout. Under the 10-Point Must Scoring System, 10 points must be awarded to the winner of the round and nine points or less must be awarded to the loser, except for a rare even round, which is scored (10-10). Phone Post

Not really any description on what deems a 10-7 Phone Post

a judge taht thinks one person beat another guy so bad that it would take him 4 straight rounds to make up for it

nobody in MMA is going to score any round a 10-7. first, it would instantly decide a 3 round fight and nearly impossible in a title fight. it makes no sense to EVER use it.

and 10-8 rounds should be extremely rare.

Round 3 Quarry vs Starnes was a 10-7 I think.

Agreed Phone Post

I meant agreed with Humphrey!! Phone Post

Thanks for trying though. Nobody else gave it much thought but I was immediately uncomfortable trying to figure out 10-7. It's why I'm still awake tonight.

2 10-8s would win you a 3 round fight if you lost one 10-7.

(j) The following objective scoring criteria shall be utilized by the judges when scoring a round;

1. A round is to be scored as a 10-10 Round when both contestants appear to be fighting evenly and neither contestant shows clear dominance in a round;

2. A round is to be scored as a 10-9 Round when a contestant wins by a close margin, landing the greater number of effective legal strikes, grappling and other maneuvers;

3. A round is to be scored as a 10-8 Round when a contestant overwhelmingly dominates by striking or grappling in a round.

4. A round is to be scored as a 10-7 Round when a contestant totally dominates by striking or grappling in a round.

I would kill to see a fight go that way!

The most suprising thing about that is you can win a 10-7 with grappling. Who would ever score a 10-7 without strikes playing a big part?

Someone would have to be killed for it to happen in the current scoring climate.

A 10-7 surely means you take no damage or have anything offensive against you. TOTALLY the key word. Fucking stupid rules!!! Phone Post

Maybe it would makes sense to use it because IT'S PART OF THE FUCKING RULES!

and 10-8 rounds should be extremely rare.

Or maybe they should as common as the RULES SAY THEY SHOULD BE!

And maybe if it's so goddamn impractical to use the actual rules in the rulebook, they should write better rules instead of having an arbitray shadow "My Strikezone" systems opposed to the actual rules
