Round 1 is the key, if you gave it to GSP, why?

It appears that a lot of people gave GSP round 1, 3, and 5 for the win. Round 3 was GSPs for sure, r5 was a tossup so I can see it going to GSP...but r1 was Hendricks all the way, I am confused by anyone giving it to GSP. Yes, GSP got the early takedown and went for a failed guillotine, but Hendricks escaped, got back to his feet, and took it to GSP the rest of the round. He gained confidence and momentum, and as they went to the corner after r1 I had no doubt that Hendricks had taken the 1st.

If you gave it to GSP, how do you justify that?

I disagree, i think round 5 was the key. it was the only 10-8 round that i would've scored and it was for GSP

Everything in that round was even except for GSP's sub attempt so he gets the edge.

I just re watched the fight and as I have said in other threads, the first two minutes of the first round were all GSP, he got the lightning quick take down, the sub attempt and control on the ground (did more with his time on top imo) and then when they got back up, a lot of it was in the clinch, and the strikes were knees to the thighs (that Rogan talked up like they were the second coming of Christ) however St-Pierre was control the clinch, moving JH around, and landing more shots when separated. JH had maybe a minute and a half of that round, he did nothing with his takedown, and I mean nothing, but the rest was GSP. my take

Because it was a draw round so you gotta go with the champ. Phone Post 3.0

Round 1 was 10-6 gsp Phone Post 3.0

You could ask the same question the other way. Here's my PBP of R1: http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=forum_framed.posts_updsub&forum=1&thread=2252399&page=1&pc=45

After 3 watches, im still not sure who won it but im sure JH didnt get "robbed!"

10-8 round?? Phone Post 3.0

After the takedown and sub attempt it wasn't "Hendricks all the way". The significant strikes Hendricks scored were the elbows during GSP's second (failed) TD attempt. The rest of the striking seemed pretty even to me, and GSP even landed a kick to Johny's head (only partially blocked by Hendricks). GSP also seemed to push the action more, so you might argue he controlled the octagon. The fight metrics, for what it's worth, had it virtually even.

Round 1 was a very close round and could have gone either way. It should have been scored a draw in an ideal world, and draw goes to the champ.

As for round 5, Hendricks did nothing. He got taken down twice, gave up his back, and didn't land any strikes of note. No way round 5 was a toss up.

If you scored round 5 10-8 for GSP, stop scoring fights right now.

Forever.

Seriously, you're done.

If Edgar/Maynard 2 didn't have any 10-8 rounds, then how the hell would you justify a 10-8 round in the GSP/Hendricks fight buddy? Phone Post

I only saw the fight once but as I remember it GSP had 2 takedowns to 0 in that round and out struck him.

Can we stop saying "significant strikes"? Its an empty term.

Look at GSPs face, watch the fight and there was one guy getting shook up by strikes and there was one guy not missing a step after getting touched.

Johnny landed the only significant strikes. A significant strike effects your opponent.

CompuBox was horrible for boxing and FightMetric is horrible for MMA. The 10 pt must and amateur boxing style tallying of techniques are killing the art of fighting. Phone Post 3.0

Kostakio, do you think Hendricks won the fifth round and if so how? because what i saw was 2 takedowns and more strikes by GSP. Again, this is only what I saw. What did you see?

There's no way any round of that fight was close to a 10-8.

Certainly not round 5. Round 2 was close to a 10-8...Hendricks had GSP hurt and in survival mode for much of the round. But not quite enough for the 10-8. But it was the most significant round of the fight for sure.
