ROY JONES (why choose a young, unbeaten opponent like Hanshaw): "I want it to be like in MMA where they match the best against the best. Boxing is competing with MMA now. I could pick a nobody, but where would that get me? I want an opponent who will answer the questions...am I still worthy? Am I still willing? Am I still able? I could've picked a lot of guys who are not as dangerous as Hanshaw."
Anyone who can go a round fighting a former world champion (who is not close to completely faded) and not have a single punch landed against him the entire round is pretty special.
Jones has given MMA respect in other interviews. As for MMA matching the best against the best, that is debateable but I think he was just using it as an example to make a point about himself. Most likely Roy doesn't pay close attention to MMA but is just aware that the UFC has become popular. If you listen to most mainstream press, the UFC can do no wrong.
^^^^ don't forget, Roy played in a professional basketball game and then defended his title the same night. Albeit not in two major leagues like Bo excelled, but still pretty cool
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Roy said he wasn't even allowed to play high school basketball by his father because he had to focus solely on boxing. In that case, it is pretty phenomenol that he was able to play semi-pro ball as an adult with only streetball experience with friends under his belt.
Likely if Jones was born into another family, he would have been an NBA point guard or an NFL corner back. The guy has freakish fast twitch fiber muscles and power for his size.
Roy is a phenominal athlete, I'll leave it at that. Where he ranks is pure speculation.
Mackie Stilhouse has worked with thousands of wolrd class athletes and he said no doubt that Roy Jones is the most athletic guy that he has ever worked with.
In UFC, the matchmaking is 10 million times harder then almost all of boxing. There is rarely an easy fight in UFC.
"In UFC, the matchmaking is 10 million times harder then almost all of boxing."
than may be the case, but up until recently, the overall talent level in the UFC was about 10 million times lower than that of HBO level boxing as well.
I think the same thing about Roy Jones Jr (and Sr. just for having such a coward ass son) as I think about Micheal Vick. They were both CAUGHT with many wounded Pitbulls at their houses, along with all the supplies and hardware needed when cowards get together and fight the dogs.
I say......they do this because they are NOT men enough to go in and fight a real fight themselves, man to man.....and see where their heart is.
And I'm not only knocking them.......I feel the same for all low-life bitches that abuse these awesome dogs. Their love and loyalty make them one of best dogs on the planet.
"I say......they do this because they are NOT men enough to go in and fight a real fight themselves, man to man.....and see where their heart is."
Roy Jones started his career at 154 and challenged for a heavyweight belt. LOL @ him not being man enough to step in the ring and put himself in danger.

Correct, if he was a real man, he would avoid being punched in the face thousands of times & fight where he could take someone down and lay on them IMO.
