The reason simco is so hated, plain and simple, is that he puts himself out there to be hated. Simco isn't the first guy to buy himself a belt, I guarantee it. He won't be the last, either. Thing is, most of the others who buy belts or promote themselves don't have the fucking gall to put out instructional books and videos like they are some legendary figure in the sport. If you're going to buy a belt, the least you can do is exhibit a decent amount of shame about it, and not flaunt it to the world like you got it for winning the mundials. One thing is for certain, if I decided to start wearing a black belt tomorrow, the second thing on my list of "things not to do" would be "roll with a Gracie while people videotape it". Number one on the list would be "wave my penis at traffic on the side of the freeway", but that's always there, regardless of belt status.

Louco, from personal experience I can tell you that it isnt true. I'm going to delete the posts in reference to this because I am certain that the information is incorrect. I'm sorry I pushed for an answer in this case.
Everyone knows who you're talking about, and it doesn't really matter anymore, because whether or not he really got it legitimately, he is unquestionably at BJJ black belt level now, as are several of his students. Even simco will probably be respectable eventually, just because eventually he will get to black belt level if he keeps training, and at that point, does it really matter who gave him the black belt? Some people will say it does, but I'm a pragmatist. If a guy has the skills and the knowledge, I don't really care. Of course, that doesn't mean I would buy real estate from him without looking at it first.

Cool, I always wondered. I heard that for years, but figured if he wasn't legit, he'd have been found out by now. I always wondered though.

I heard from former students he doesn't do much free sparring at all. So how would he eventually get to blackbelt ?

HAHAAHA...Royce did that same sequence to me in class once. After the
4th time we get back to our knees and he says: "Now, Angelo...I'm going
to grab that shoulder with this hand and that knee with this hand and I'm
going to attack that arm. Try and stop it this time." I couldn't. I was a
blue belt at the time, and it pretty much looked identical to the video.
