Don't get caught slippin' leaving your arm dangling when you're in the Omoplata position. I'm trying to go for the flashiest, pro wrasslin' looking moves. Try this move out, let me know if it works for you. I've only gotten it live on white belts so far.
Honestly, I'd love to see someone use that in MMA and use that left arm to freely beat the crap out of his opponent's face! I mean, there'd really be no defending it, so the ref would have to stop it at some point I'm assuming.
That's be a pretty embarrassing way to lose--GnP from behind the back ON BOTTOM!
Alder, has anyone tried to flail hardcore to get out of it, or is escaping it pretty impossible?
Looks hard to catch that loose arm, but I'll work on it, see if there's a way to bait them into giving it to me. Otherwise, I love it. I use the Plata as my main sweep, so anything off of it I love. THANKS!
It's cool looking, but I don't think it's going to be easy to implement on a skilled opponent (not that anything is).
When a guy powers up like that if you don't immediately try to put him back down or transition he is going to turn into you, stack you, and pass to side.
With your weight that far back, all he needs to do is place his head underneath your ankles and turn into you while putting forward pressure to stack. From there he's going to turn the corner and pass, and in a NoGi situation you won't be able to hold pants. Not to mention it will very difficult to trap the lose arm.

So far I have COMPLETELY dominated white belts with it, and those guys flail like crazy ;) What's nutty is people actually do get to this position a lot with the arm hooked. I've personally been there many times. I just never thought there was anything offensive from that. I'd always let go of the arm and try to go back to the omoplata. The control feels really tight. You have to keep the omoplata tight, or the arm can start to weasel out.
I'll give you guys the Coach Alder Challenge. Drill the position when you first get the arm hooked, see if you can finish it. Let's see if it's legit Good Luck =)

I always grab the free arm from the omoplata instead of the belt or waist. I use it to control the sweep so I can choose if I want to stay in the normal omoplata or if I'm not getting it I use the arm I half-nelsoned like that to sweep which I've found leaves me in a more controlled position after the sweep and less likely to have to scramble. They're more pinned with both their shoulders controlled (at least that's what I've found, obviously Alder would know better than me if this is good to do or not.)
I got to this twistoplata once a month or two ago but it was more of an exhibition "let's see what cool stuff we can do" free roll. I'll definitely try to work on it in live practice.
JillWagner - u know when you get caught in the omaplata why cant they just roll forward to escape it instead of sitting up??its like when u get caught in a kimura(key lock FROM the guard)if the guy doesnt hook my ankle i just roll forward.
from the video there the white belt can just tuck his head in and roll
That's why I use the half nelson to control. If I can't get the half nelson to control and they roll, oh well I got a sweep and I can choose side control or mount.
What if this move does work in competition? You'd be the talk of the town. Chances are you could mate with your choice of women and dudes would buy you drinks everywhere you went!
Katsmash - This was NOT a rex kwon do impersonation! I really talk and act like this.
Jill - If the guy rolls forward, then I sweep with the omoplata +2 points FTW! BTW there's a counter for everything, this whole "well what if he does this or does that" debate is lame. What if he gives me his arm, what if he goes into a coma, what if he's never trained JJ in his life? The Answer, Twist-o-Plata.
Morgs - Yes I heel hook white belts. I also chin to eye socket them, and step on their necks after I sub them. I have to prove my alpha male dominance!
