This seems like an interesting match-up to me. Isn't Erikson more free-style focused while Rulon of course specializes in Greco? This fight could help build up both fighters. Would Rulon be the favorite as a former gold medalist, or would Erikson having some more MMA experience be the favorite?
I would not want to watch this fight - styles make fights and these guys wouldn't be much fun to watch. No idea who has better striking, but I doubt either one has much in the way of submissions. Wrestler vs. wrestler fights tend to not be very exciting if neither is particularly good at striking or subs.

Wrestlers are good at reversing positions and are never content to lay on their backs. A wrestler vs wrestler match is full of scrambles, takedowns, escapes, reversals etc. . .
Erikson has more boxing experiance since he's been doing MMA for a long time and has some K1 fights. I think he would beat Rulon standing. I doubt Rulon could take him down too, but you never know.

Um, I think you're confusing a wrestling match with an MMA fight between pure wrestlers. Takedowns, then lots of weak ground and pound, or lay and pray...
(and this is coming from a wrestler)
Yeah, Hughes/Trigg was very exciting. Hughes/Sherk was pretty cool. Erikson/Randleman and Couture/Randleman were also good fights.
" Tom would knock his ass into next week. Tom is MUCH more aggressive"
Rulon was kind of passive in the Yoshida fight because he was afraid to take it to the ground and get subbed. His corner let him know that he should keep the fight standing and use his size/strength to beat Yoshida.
I'm sure Rulon would be much more aggressive against another wrestler.

As was mentioned, Trigg vs. Hughes, Erikson vs. Randleman, and others were exciting fights. Under theory quoted, we would never match match up wrestle vs. wrestler. I think it really depends on the individual wrestlers involved. With these two, perhaps they both might be able to stymie each other's take-downs and slug it out. They both seem to have heavy hands. Maybe it wouldn't be a Pele vs. Newton style excitement, but the match-up makes me curious about the outcome, so I would like to see it. The Greco specialist vs. Free-style specialist could add an element of intrigue.
My guess is Erikson right now due to experience, but who knows.
i wanna see erickson vs. fedor
