Rumble on the Rock PPV wasn't bad

Considering there was a time we couldn't get UFC, everyone on this forum at least should be ordering every MMA ppv that comes on. ROR was pretty cool to watch. They weren't as flashy as UFC but they had a lot of backstage footage which I liked a lot. They had a more documentary type feel to their event. It's more of a japanese production style that I wish the UFC would utilize more. They focus the show more around the fighters then the event. Good start for PPV overall. Only 20 bucks for two hours. But the event felt longer than two hours only because they really focused all the airtime on the fighters and their backgrounds, which is a overall an improvement for any show. Documentary on the fighters with their actual fights being shown. Great idea.

I am watching it now. The opening segment was cheesy as hell, and some of the music is pretty bad. But the fights are ok so far and the fighter profiles are decent. I do think it's odd that the TV show treats this event as more of a historical artifact than a live event.

Wes Sims is a tard.

Looking forward to the Penn-Gracie fight...

I was going to order this, but heard that the fights were edited, including (unforgivably, in my opinion) the Gracie and Penn fight! Is this true?

Yes...they edited a few of the fights. They took out Round 2 of the Cabbage fight completely, so you only get to see 1 & 3. I didn't mind that too much. But when they editted the main event, I was disappointed. They could have taken out all that stuff that wasted time so they could show the complete Penn vs Gracie fight. It was a terrible edit job and I won't buy another one of their events for fear that they would edit main events again.

the editting sucks, a few of the matchups are decent. the gracie that didn't fight penn did fight a hellova wrestler in that japanese guy i don't remember his name. i thought gracie would get finished in the 1st. that was the fight of the night IMO, plus cabbages.

that guys first name is Royler... = )

Yeah the editing was pretty bad.

The fight editing sucked. I also would have preferred to see more fights and less cheese at the beginning. They could have edited the fighter bio stuff a little more tightly too and not lost anything important.

On the plus side, somehow I got it for free - was "complimentary" via OnDemand. No idea why, but I ordered it and watched it before they could change their minds.

I have to say I am happy to see another promotion get on PPV. Overall, I enjoyed it--

the editing in a few parts would be the only thing I would gripe. The Cabbage-Nakao fight finished its first round and then jumped to the third, which was a shame because the announcer said Cabbage had come back in the 2nd and it ended up being a split decision in the end. If I'm not mistaken, they also edited within the penn-gracie fight.

Overall, I didn't mind paying $20 to watch. Miyata looks like a prospect for any fight show, and Denniss Hallman's "Karate" schtick was amusing.

Extensive fighter bios and edited fights?

hmmm. Doesn't sound like a winning formula to me.

I don't think making the fighters dramatic is cheesy. That's the japanese style way of production, which I tend to like over live event style the UFC has. But there could be a common ground.

I would rather watch the (ufc) live format as it happens, instead of taped delay.

Although the extra insight is always good and I like some of the things Pride does.

With Ufc you'll just have to wait for the DVD for all that bonus footage, which is getting better every disc, but I prefer seeing the event in realtime.

Pride does always show nearly every fight, with the exception of 1 or 2 though.

Anyhow, was this available on Adelphia INDEMAND.(So Cali.???)

PEACE.
juice.

not seen this cos I'm living in the developed world but the first line of the first post is irreversibly correct.
