I had their filet mignon with this creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, way overrated.
Give me a home grilled ribeye any day
Only "real" steakhouse I didnt like. Maybe because its a chain, it loses something.
Ill never go back.
You phucked up when you decided to buy filet mignon. I've had nothing but good experiences there. Their seafood Mac and cheese is amazing. Should have went with a dry aged cut.
It is good food but definitely over-rated.
Been to three different ones, first one ~5-6 times, second and third ones 2x each.
First one (the original in New Orleans) was consistently good.
Second one (in Houston) once was good, once was average.
Third one (in Jackson, MS) was average once and bad once. Steak was surprisingly poor quality even though it was cooked well, and the sides were nothing to write home about.
I guess each individual chain has its own variable plusses and minuses. I'd be happy to eat at the original one in NO again, I will not eat at the Jackson one likely ever again. If I'm going to spend that much on food, it damn well better be perfect.
I agree with OP. My home steaks are superior to most Ive had. Likely because I grill em over wood and charcoal. But my buddy owns a Ruths so I eat there (free) here and there and Im almost never impressed.
Insofar as chains go, The Capital Grille isnt too bad but home steaks are best if you know how to grill - I pick the cut, I pick the rub, I sear it to perfection :)
Bone in Ribeye I had in Philadelphia was excellent.
Well I'm going to Alinea in chicago for the first time ever this year. GF wants to see what a 300 dollar meal is like. I am not all to happy about the cost, but hey one time for everything i guess.
I think it's decent but it's not my favorite. I actually like to get the stuffed chicken when I go there - that is a delicious meal! Their sides are ok but not the best.
our Ruth Chris is fucking delicious.
Overpriced and overrated like most fad chains.
I have a sneaking suspicion that a good deal of the sides originate at least in part from a bag or can :-(
It's terribly over rated... At least the one we had here that only lasted 2 years. Not a fan

Filet/tenderloin doesn't have much flavor and ribeye arguably has the best flavor.
This. OP is a dipshit for comparing the two together. Ruths Chris ribeye is legit.
Never had a bad experience at one.
Their mashed potatoes were... meh.
The only one I've ever been to reeked of cigars & fat old Republican swampass, & the food wasn't sufficiently fantastic enough to offset that.

Mastro's here in SoCal is amazing. Head and shoulders above Ruth Chris. I have been to 3 Ruth's Chris and was happy, I can't say anything bad.
Mastro's on the other hand is exceptional.
Visited one once. Probably wouldn't go back. It was a nice pace and the food was ok, but the steak wasn't even close to as good as what I expected from it.
Def agree. I am a Capitol Grille man. Lobster bisque, lobster mac and cheese, lobster tail, porterhouse and a coconut cream pie and Im good.
