Is this thing super detailed like the rest of his stuff? Is it worth it, or almost overwhelming on the details?
It's, very much, taught as I've seen him teach. I really enjoy his teaching style and found it to be a really good and powerful dvd.
Listen up guys, this is absolutely critical!
This dvd set has made the most impact to my current bjj game. I love passing now, when earlier i hated it. This set is pure gold.
If you like Ryan hall you'll love that DVD. Really solid
I like it,broken down to a nice system that links everything together.
I like it. Arm triangles is still my favorite though.
I'm in the middle of disc 2 right now. His instructionals can be pricey but you definitely get what you pay for in my opinion. As others have said he really explains a lot of useful concepts for your overall game and ways to mesh different passes as opposed to just breaking them all down separately with subtle details. It's long but definitely worthwhile I think, and the segments themselves aren't really that long, just few mins each, but there are a lot of them!

worth it. the open elbow dvd was super hard to get thru. Usually I can watch vids for an hr or two at a shot when I first get them, but that vid i could only take in maybe 10-20 min chunks before I got sick of hearing him say open elbow. open elbow. what this? open elbow
I bought a bunch of his sets used. He is excellent at conveying concepts. I still can't stop watching the Arm Triangle set, but I do want to move on to the passing one next. Relevant reading, this thread is.
The best thing you can do with Ryan Hall DVD's is not attempt to watch more than 30 mins at a time.
I had much more success watching 15-30 min segments shortly before open mats, drilling the techniques shown, then repeating next week.
He's gonna slap you!

I usually watch a disc straight thru and then come back and watch sections at a time to drill. I probably watch the dvds that I like at least 15 times each...everytime I watch it I see another detail I've forgotten or didn't pay attention to
Also worth mentioning: contact him directly and ask for a discount. I guarantee it's worth it.
falsecrack -I watch the entire DVD, find things I like and record them on my phone and bring it with me to drill.aboveandbeyond - The best thing you can do with Ryan Hall DVD's is not attempt to watch more than 30 mins at a time.

I have bought all of Ryan Hall's DVDs I am a huge fan and I love his instruction.
If there is one thing I have to critique is yes his affinity for the details can be a little too much. As in too much to understand in one sitting. It is near impossible to soak up every nook and cranny Ryan Hall offers simply because there is too much.
How I watch it now is just like how I used to study in college. I watch one dvd a chapter at a time, maybe the same chapter several times over, and I literally write notes in a notebook just like how I would in a college lecture. Ive found this to personally help me a great deal and help me reinforce certain "main points" by writing them down. Maybe this is something you can try? Hope this helps
StevePak -Voted up. I have a BJJ notebook as well lol
