I don't know Helio's criteria, but I do know that he doesn't believe in the three years per stripe deal.
If you look at Ryron for example, he is 22 and told me he started training when he was 2 years old. That's 20 years of training 6 days a week.
They are not 3rd degree black belts, they are second degree. The white stripes at the top and bottem of the red bar indicate "fighter". They are 2nd degree black belts.
