I'm 36 and starting to feel some pain for a day or 2 after training. I have never really taken anything before other than food and water. I am interested in Fish oil but was told theres different kinds. What is the most commonly used for joint pain, as I constantly read about Fish oil capsules.
Any other basic supplements I should be taking or should look at please suggest them and remember that I know nothing of supplements or there use, but the body needs something to keep up to these young guns.
thanks all.
Omega 3-6-9 and Glucosamine are really good for joint pain. Glutamine is probly your best bet for muscle soreness. Along with proper diet and rest of course.

Nailed it.
There's not a lot of supplements that are proven to work, but fish oil, Omegastuffs, Glutamine and Glucosamine do help.
Creatine is legit too some people find the extra moist plumpness (??!!?) helps.
Oh and branch chain Amino Acids. Take them too.
I'd skip supplements all together, and instead recommend seeking out the extra nutrition you would from said supplements in their natural, unprocessed food form.
Here's why. Pills, powders, and liquids can't substitute for the natural effects of real foods. They're expensive, and have been proven in many studies not to do much.
Food chemistry and our digestive processes are complex stuff, and we've evolved eating things that came from the ground or an animal. Chemically synthesizing something into a pill or powder doesn't cut it.
Omega 3-6-9 is definitely good stuff as stated above. However, would be better served consumed in its natural forms. Flax seed oil, fatty fishes, nuts, avocados etc.
Just my $0.02
You guys are great. Ask and you shall receive.
Thanks alot.
Been using Glucosamine and shark cartilage and it;s helping my elbow.
Glucosamine helped me recover from a neck injury I sustained while rolling with a 250-pound gorilla.
Fish and flax oil, and a multivitamin are the other pills I take daily.
Are you lifting weights or is this bjj/wrestling/striking training?
For joints: glucosamine/msn/chondroitin seems to be the standard way to go, but supposedly takes 2-3 months to see any results.
Not lifting weights,,, strictly BJJ/striking/wrestling.

It would be good to understand what kind of pain you are experiencing? Some good advice above for joint pain in Omega 3-6-9, Glucosamine and Chondroitin are all solid. I would also take a look at what you are doing post and pre workout if you are having joint soreness. Are you warming up properly, are you stretching and working on mobility, how are you sleeping, or do you have an underlying injury?
Supplements are just that, a supplement to your diet if you are unable to get it naturally. Eating grass fed beef, salmon and O-3 eggs could take the place of Omega supplements. I drink a lot of protein shakes because I like to consume protein every 3 hours and I dont always have a handfull of turkey or other lean meat available.
Great thread!
