So I finished a heavy set of deadlifts and when I was done, I put the bar down and when I looked up it was like there were a hundred little sparkly tears in the space time continuum. My guess is that it had to do with blood flow..... Anyone else experience anything like this?
It's normal when you strain during a heavy lift.
My understanding is that it's to do with the drop in blood pressure when you drop the weight and let out the breath you were holding. I'm not a big deadlifter though, so it would be interesting to hear the thoughts of a power lifter on how to manage this.
In jiu jitsu we call them tap fairies.
Eel - In jiu jitsu we call them tap fairies. That was the only other time I had seen it before was after getting caught in a triangle

nice this happens when i get really high too
Don't they say lift til you see god? Well, I sometimes see the big bang.
Yup. The worst though was when I exacerbated an old disk injury; I felt sharp pain radiating outwards over my whole body, i saw stars, my vision dimmed, I got dizzy/light headed I had to grab the rack to not fall over, and I got loud ringing in my ears. Pretty scary lol.
happens to me after heavy deads.. everytime
Aren't you on the verge of passing out? That is a lack of oxygen and blood going to the brain....ive got these while squatting and it scares the shit out of me.
Its a lack of oxygen to the brain, kind of like what happens in jujitsu when you get a blood choke applied. If this happens (and it will) in the gym you should be prepared to take a quick knee before you pass out because passing out and falling uncontrolled in a room full of hard metal objects can end pretty badly.
I once ran an 800M race in high school that I didn't warm up for properly. During the last 50 Meters of the race every time I blinked, it would take an extra half to full second for my vision to return and my field of vision kept getting more narrow every second. Basically, I was slowly blacking out because my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen as I pushed hard towards the end of the race.
Same type of thing as you described.
All the blood pumps into your legs and lower back depriving your brain. I get this constantly.
The best way to counteract it is an immediate knee when you put the weight down, before the stars start.
This used to happen to me until I started taking a big stomach of air before I pull and reset after each rep
