^ Lol, good find.
I don't know what to say, except he teaches it the other way haha :)
(Both pics are 4 years old, I dont know if he changed his strategy since then, or maybe he does break his own rules!)
Oops you are correct- for some reason I thought his choking hand was on top...I blame it on lack of sleep...hah.
Whew my bjj world hasnt been shattered just yet, although he does look to be grabbing closer to the hand than farther down the wrist in these pics.

I ususally bend my wrist and have my under hook hand (middle or ring finger) grabbing at the bend of the wrist. Gets a better grip. To far on the hand and nothing is the crook of the wrsit. I end up slipping off, or they can control at the wrist and harder for me to bring my choking arm up. Same thing if I grab to high on the wrist and expose the hand they are able to grab at the hand and control it so I can't bring my arm up.
Sounds about exactly right. I was just sitting at my desk practicing my grip and I believe that I use 2 fingers pointer & middle finger around my wrist. I like to have the pinky edge of my under hand line up with the knuckles of my choking hand. .... I love when people have really subtle details that have a myriad of important reasons behind it. This is where the real beauty of bjj lies for me.
I haven't watched the videos you posted yet kying, but I train with MG in NYC and he has personally told me to grasp my choking hand, not the wrist. He said he doesn't care if his opponent holds his wrist as long as they dont get ahold of his hands....as per the pics jmil posted. I know he has said the same on mginaction. "Don't leave an edge for your opponent to grab".
don't get ahold of his choking hand*

Interesting- thanks for sharing (btw- I didnt post vids, just screen shots).
I guess I haven't been watching and listening carefully enough to MG! (removes foot from mouth haha)
Marcelo teaches that the index finger should be more or less on the wrist line.
delicious bass - Marcelo teaches that the index finger should be more or less on the wrist line.
Thanks for that info! I feel dumb that I missed out on that important detail for so many years.
No, actually I find it stronger but it did feel a little weird at first. It's the same grip for guillotine in terms of finger placement.
Seems like the majority of marcelo's game is based off that grip
Seal belt, guillotine, throat crush, ankle lock, when marcelo gets those hand locked it's over
